I have just set up a website for South Kirkby Colliery FC who play in
the Sheefield County Senior League. Address: www.shortal.com/skcfc.
Take a look, additions all the time. |

Further to the posting by Rod Allsworth Calella play in the third
level of the Catalan Regional League i. e. seventh level overall. Full fixtures for the
whole of this league can be found on www.futcat.org Most of the Spanish Regional Leagues
have their own websites, several through
www.futbolbase.com, and the one for Vizcaya (Biscay) is www.fvf-bff.org from which we
found a Regional Honor (top division) fixture last year at a very nice little ground in
Leoia and even got a small programme ! One word of warning - changes from
"standard" kick off times are published very
late in Spain even for the higher divisions e.g. Division 3 for this coming
weekend have not appeared by Wednesday night - so double check local papers if at all
possible. |

Found in a posting on the Frome Town website (so I can't vouch for it's accuracy, but it
may be of interest) : "Calne Town FC have now severed all ties with its social club.
The ground is still situated at Bremhill View but the telephone number of the Club must
not be used under any circumstances. Hospitality will now be at the North Star Social Club
adjacent to the ground in the top left hand corner". |

Last Sunday I visited the game Callella versus Barbera in the Spanish Primera Territorial
Group Division 2. The league basically covers the Costa Brava .No programme was issued but
I managed to pick up a league fixtures book. If anyone requires fixture info for this
league-kick off normally Sunday @ 12noon please mail me-rodallsworth@aol.com |

Good spot by Chris, with the Valencienne game at 15.45 on a Sunday. Curiously, they repeat
the time two weeks later, AWAY at Lorient! (18 December). I do not know if this will set a
pattern |

I went to Essex Olympian League Debden Sports last Saturday for their clash with
unbeaten Harold Wood. It was an entertaining game, with Debden having two goals disallowed
before going down 0-3 to a very strong HW side. The ground in Chigwell Lane is very close
to the M11 Junction 5, although this is only a northbound exit. It is also just 10 minutes
away from Debden Station on the tube line. The pitch is one of three, and a fair way from
the dressing rooms/clubhouse. Here, they did teas and a fine selection of food - the smell
of cooking bacon was very tempting. A smart programme was issued for a quid. |

Chris - Northern Island next Saturday 3rd, the League Cup Final Linfield v Glentoran has
been put back to Saturday 10th, IPL fixtures for this weekend were already scheduled for
Friday because of the League Cup Final. Official Announcement to be made by the IPL later
today. |

Overnight snow caused chaos in Belgium Saturday morning with all league games Div 1
through to Div 4 (except Div 4A) and 8 of the 9 provincial set ups being white-outs. The 2
top division games on the Sunday were played, as were the games in 4A (except at
Lovendegem). All but a handful of West Vlaanderen Prov games were played so I was ok at SV
Jabbeke (Prov 2A) who issued what appeared to be a regular single A4 welcome sheet. As Leo
mentioned when writing about matches in the Nederlands, the Belgian FA has a policy of
calling all games off in particular divisions or regions when persistent bad weather hits
them. |

Cheers chaps. With regards to a Hoofklasse match, I had already pencilled in a
Sat afternoon match at Heerjansdam which is only a few miles out of Rotterdam. However, as
this is a Christmas shopping trip with the missus, will have the play it by ear and make
decisions whilst over there. I noted the majority of fixtures were called off this weekend
so lets hope the weather improves for the weekend we travel... |
 |
28/11/05 09:42 Chris Ashbridge
Interesting Sunday fixture (assuming the weather on the Continent does not get
any worse) which may appeal to some - Valenciennes v. Sedan (Div 2) kicking off at the
very unusual time of 3.45pm on Sunday 4th December. By the way, not sure if any fixtures
in Northern Ireland will be switched due to George Best's funeral next Saturday. |
 |
28/11/05 Chris Ashbridge
Nice to see you got some sort of prog or teamsheet out of the three matches you attended,
Leon. With regard to Holland, you should be able to get programmes at the three matches
you are planning to attend there. However, I would question the wisdom of booking a trip
this far in advance in the winter before you have had an opportunity to see the weather
forecast. All matches in Holland's top division on Sat 26th November (plus those in
Belgium) were called off due to heavy snowfalls, although the conditions must have
improved sufficiently by Sunday as some games were played that day. |
 |
28/11/05 Leo Hoenig
Leon may be Well Glad to know that I have been generally successful with picking up
programmes in the Netherlands. He should also be able to get one if he livens up his trip
with an Amateur game on Saturday afternoon. The website to check for this is
http://www.voetbalnederland.nl/ which always has the fixtures a week or two in advance -
although beware that the whole weeks fixtures for a division may be called off together in
the case of bad weather. If he stays in a hotel with TV, then look for the Afgelast pages
on teletext. Netherlands teletext also gives the fixtures and tables for the top division.
Afg. means postponed! The amateur games are easy enough for a car driver to find - but a
public transport user has to do more research. There used to be a very good public
transport information kiosk across the square from Amsetrdam Central Station. Have not
been for a few years, but its probably still there. |

In answer to Steve Hardy about UCL programmes, I went to a game at Thrapston Town back in
August and no programme was issued then. I don't know if there are different rules in the
Premier and First Divisions though. |

With reference to Harrowby United, my understanding is that they are supposed to issue but
owing to their many problems they seem to get away with it. |

27/11/05 00:02 Leon Gladwell
With pleasure Chris. At Lievin, unsurprisingly perhaps, there was no programme but I did
manage to secure a printed team sheet which were handed to the press. This was headed up
with the club name and stadium address etc. At Lens I obtained the unusual Ligue 1
newspaper style programme entitled 'Sang et Or' ('Blood and Gold') - I have brought home
similar efforts from matches at Sedan, Lille and Lorient over the past couple of years. At
Kortrijk a free A4 size programme with glossy cover (no match details on front) and black
and white content was obtained although at an hour before kick-off, there appeared to be
just one box of these inside the entrance to the more vocal tribune.
Incidentally, I am planning a trip to Holland (flying to Amsterdam) on the weekend of the
17th December. Hoping to take in games at Sparta Rotterdam on the Friday, PSV on the
Saturday and Den Haag on the Sunday, although I will wait and see how quickly the latter
process my club card application (match versus Feyenoord). Can I expect programmes at
these three? |
 |
26/11/05 Richard Rundle
It is probably old news to most by now, but Exmouth Town are in serious financial
difficulties. Sufficient income to run a first team in the Western League is not being
generated. The club have been given permission by the Western League to postpone all
remaining fixtures in 2005. An earlier report that they had resigned from the League
proved (thankfully) to be premature. They hope to resume first team action on 7th January
2006. Meanwhile the second team are continuing to function. |

I saw a truly awful match at Harrowby United this afternoon in the UCL. I thought
all clubs had to produce a programme in this league but Harrowby didn't and haven't all
season they told me. Anybody know the definitive answer on programme issuing in the UCL?
Do Harrowby get fined every time they don't issue for instance? |

In response to Leon's enquiry re. attendances, finding out the attendance at Kortrijk is
not possible as exact attendances for league games in Belgium are never published,
although one of the Monday papers sometimes gives approximate attendances in its match
reports for 1st/2nd division games. In France's Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, the paper 'La
Voix des Sports'(published only on Mondays) sometimes gives exact crowds for French Cup
games, so you could try writing to them (with payment) for a copy. If you don't want to
write to them, it is usually available at the Gare du Nord in Paris for the next few days,
but as this is unlikely to be of much use to you, an alternative is to ask for back copies
at a library in the region when you are next there on a weekday. (I have done this myself
in order to find out attendances for games I have attended in past years, with some
success.) |

Advance notice of an intended double on 10th December which may be of interest to
some. Didcot Town v Gorleston or Mildenhall in the FA Vase will be preceded at 1pm by

pitch, and Didcot Match Secretary ,and Euro-grounhopper, Simon Kelly tells me that the
intention is to produce a programme. |

Like Dave, I too ventured out to Northern France over the weekend where I enjoyed a
magnificent cup game between Lievin USA & US Quevilly, won by the underdogs Lievin
from four divisions below. The scenes of celebration at the final whistle were like
nothing I have seen for a long time in football. Then onto a foggy Stade Felix Bolleart
for a disappointing 0-0 draw between RC Lens and Metx before finishing the weekend in
Belgium with a fine 2e Klasse match between KV Kortrijk and KV Mechelen. All done on
Eurostar with a single night stop over in Lens. Incidentally, the cup match was played at
the excellent little ground of CS Avion (CFA) which neighbours RC Lens training
facilities. Highly recommended. Lastly, does Dave or Chris perhaps know where I can obtain
the attendances for the Lievin and Kortrijk matches? |

Re Roberttown of the West Riding County Amateur League. This club are on my list
to visit this season, but I notice the league website (wrc.leaguemanager.biz) has no
upcoming fixtures for them and that both the league fixture grid and the league table has
them down as having played NO games this season. This is in contrary to the league table
published in the Non-league Paper at the weekend. Have I missed something here ? I cannot
find an explanation on the league website although my eyesight isn't what it was, has Bill
mentioned it the Traveller? Have they perhaps folded or even been thrown out of the league
? Over to you Yorkshire experts (Hedley?)

Pity about Wasquehal switching their game from the 'Annexe 1' to the main stadium, but I
agree with Dave Woodings' comments that it is worthwhile visiting clubs in the region.
Those who collect match tickets may be interested to know that both Isbergues (Promotion
Honneur) and Vermelles (Honneur) are both issuing individual types of match tickets this
season, rather than the standard issue tickets that many other French non-league clubs go
in for. However, free admission at French non-league clubs is not uncommon, possibly
because od generous financial support given by the local councils. Also, be careful about
attending matches during wet spells, as the Nord-Pas-de-Calais area tends to call off all
matches when this sort of weather comes along, as they like to keep the pitches in good
condition. Because of this (it is announced in Sunday's 'La Voix de Nord') I once had to
catch the ferry back from Calais when this happened - at least I hadn't spent money on
Eurostar! I usually only visit these clubs in Sept-October or in April-May. |
 |
21/11/05 12:07 Dave Woodings
Further to last week's discussions about Wasquehal they eventually played yesterday's
Coupe de France game at the MAIN Stadium Nord, winning 3-1. This appears to have been a
very late switch as the tickets still showed the game would be at the Annexe. It looked
like another event was just finishing at about 17.00 hours so this may have been the
reason for the switch. It certainly wasn't the size of the crowd - less than 250, of whom
half looked to be from visitors St. Nicolas. Earlier, in contrast, we saw an incident
packed game at Bailleul in front of a crowd of well over 1000. Pleasant little ground,
with an elevated stand holding 200 plus, but no lights which explains why they didn't play
on Saturday night ! Bailleul are in the lower reaches of Nord Pas de Calais Regional
football but put on a spirited display (in one case too spirited as he got a red card)
before losing 1-3 to Aire (who also ended with only 10 men) from three divisions higher.
Having now visited a few grounds in this region I can recommend them to anyone who fancies
popping over to France - most games are on Sunday afternoons with a few on Saturday
evenings. Fixtures can be found on www.fff.fr under "Regionaux et
Departmentaux". |

Yesterday I saw the Birmingham Vase tie between AFC Wulfrunians and Bulkington,
won 4-1 by the home side before a crowd of around 30. The game was played at the Old
Wulfrunians Club, Castlecroft in Wolverhampton (not their usual shared home at Wolves
Casuals) and the pitch was railed off with some cover. AFC issue programmes (£2 with
admission) and serve hot drinks. Photos can be found at http://oldwulfrunians.fotopic.net/c767815.html
AFC Wulfrunians look forward to welcoming travellers to this Saturday's home game in the
JW Hunt Cup with Cadbury which will be played at the same venue. |

My visit to RIPON CITY MAGNETS FC. On Saturday 19th November I went to the delightful
small city of Ripon in North Yorkshire to see the West Yorkshire League Division One match
between Ripon City Magnets and Barwick at Ripon's Mallorie Park Drive ground. Following
Barwick's 6-0 thrashing the week before at Sherburn White Rose, I came expecting plenty of
goals and in an evenly contested 1st half, Barwick took a shock lead to go into the break
a goal up. The 2nd half saw Ripon dominate and they soon equalised on a bitterly cold day
and many other chances went begging but a mixture of good goalkeeping and poor finishing
kept the scores level. Near the end a Barwick defender had a rush of blood to the head and
hit a Ripon forward as the ball came into the penalty area and was immediately sent off by
the referee. The resultant spot kick hit the post and came out again so the scores
remained at 1-1. The ground is quite good for this level, with a clubhouse in the corner
as you enter the ground, a railed off pitch with dug outs and an impressive small seated
stand along one side of the ground with the club name on the fascia. No admission was
charged and no programmes were available. Luckily I had one from a couple of seasons ago
when they were in the Premier Division of the West Yorkshire League but they have not
issued since being relegated. The attendance was around 50. Ripon is a very attractive
town with a rececourse nearby, there is a large market square and some interesting pubs.
There is a cathedral and lots of shops, restaurants etc. I travelled from London by train
to York where I caught another train to Harrogate. At Harrogate station I turned right and
walked about 100 yards to the bus station where a Number 36 bus goes to Ripon every 20
minutes at 10, 30, and 50 mins past each hour journey time approx 30 minutes - return fare
was £4.60. It is approximately 7 or 8 miles from Harrogate. Coming back, again bus 36 is
every 20 mins at 05, 25 and 45 mins past each hour. I spent a bit of time in Harrogate and
visited the massive and very impressive Wetherspoons there and also had a couple of hours
in York when I arrived back following the 2.15 pm kick-off at Ripon. All in all, despite
being cold, the sun thankfully stayed out and it was an enjoyable day. |

Clovelly AFC has one of the most scenically situated set ups I've come across, offering
superb views of Lundy Island and the North Devon coastline from most parts of the ground.
Clovelly Playing Field can be found in the splendidly named Wrinkleberry Lane, Higher
Clovelly. The Parish Hall is the impressive brick building facing you on entering the
quite spacious car-park. An early arrival ensures anyone who doesn't want to watch the
game (eg my wife) has that previously mentioned view to enjoy from the strategically
placed car! The ground is fully enclosed by either hedges or fences and the near side,
running parallel to Wrinkleberry Lane, is slightly banked. There is a covered standing
enclosure about half way along and I'd estimate it could accommodate around 50 spectators.
The two end sections of this structure are awarded "dug out" status but there
are no benches! A brick tea hut has also been erected on this side and additional hard
standing is provided by a paved approach pathway. A couple of picnic style bench/tables
are here too, but I suspect no serious football watchers would occupy them! Behind the
near goal there is also hard standing in part of the car-park area. The opposite side is
not favoured by spectators as there is very little room between the pitch and the high
wire fence which, with quite recently grown saplings, is designed to reduce the numbers of
footballs lost - it's a steep drop towards the cliffs on the other side! Upstairs in the
Parish Hall there is a comfortable social club and the bar was open just before the end of
the game. Bass, in its latest Marston's incarnation, was served on handpump and that was a
surprise. There is a lounge and adjoining games room from where an excellent view of the
match may be enjoyed. Following promotion to the Premier Division of the North Devon
League two seasons ago, Clovelly are finding things a little difficult on the playing side
and fellow strugglers Bradworthy United took advantage of the breaks that came their way,
recording a 3-0 win. No admission was charged or collection taken and Clovelly do not
issue programmes. Att : 23 |

Further to Stan Armett's entry of 14/11, an Eurostar ticket from London to
Brussels entitles the holder to free travel on domestic (but not THALYS) trains anywhere
in Belgium that day. This applies to any day, not just the specific weekend Stan
mentioned. Secondly, with regard to my post of 15/11 - I think I was wrong to suggest a
taxi from Kortrijk station to Tourcoing metro. This would be rather expensive and with no
guarantee of getting to the 6pm match, so it would probably be quicker and more
cost-effective to take the taxi direct to the Stadium Nord. Also, I can't guarantee that
taxis are always available at Kortrijk station. |

17/11/05 Keith Dawson
In response to Chris Bedford's post - I'm afraid that games often seem to
disappear or change in the Central Midlands League at very short notice. The game at
Barton did take place, as I went, and they beat Bottesford 3-0 |
 |
16/11/05 Chris Bedford
I was planning a trip to Rolls Royce v Appleby Frodingham this evening but it
appears the game was played last night (Rolls won 1-0). According to the CML's website and
mitoo, the three Floodlight Cup ties for tonight are at Askern, Barton and Kimberley. |
 |
15/11/05 Chris Ashbridge
In response to Leon Gladwell's and Dave Woodings's queries re; French Cup, I can add the
following observations of mine.
1) Lievins's home tie is being played at Avion, as (presumably) their usual ground does
not have the media facilities (seating for the press)required for this stage of the
competition. Avion issued a programme when I went there in 1997-98, so you may prefer to
go for one of their home games.
2)Stadium Nord and its annexe are about 8-10 mins walk from the nearest metro station, can
be found easily on a map in the newsagent at the main rail station.
3) Bailleul are playing at 2.30 pm on Sunday. A glance at the SNCF website shows that
there is a train from there at 17.12 (so extra time no problem) but it arrives at Lille at
17.39 which means that you will have do some running in order to get to the Stadium Nord
in time for ko, and that's if you are lucky!
4)It is not possible to get by train from Kortrijk to the Stadium Nord in time, although
your chances are better if you get a taxi from the station to Tourcoing metro and then go
by metro to the Stadium Nord. Zwevegem Sport (4 miles SE of Kortrijk) are kicking off in
the West Flanders 1st provincial league at 2.30pm although again a car would be the
preferred option.
Incidentally, I am making an Eurostar daytrip to Havinnes (near Tournai)at 2.30pm that
day, so perhaps I'll see some of you there, although having done Wasquehal already I will
be catching the 18.36 Eurostar from Lille afterwards. By the way, I've decided that in
future whenever the weather is fine in England on a Saturday, I will watch a non-league
match there and go abroad on a Saturday only when the weather is dodgy. |
 |
15/11/05 Andy Molden
Reference Long Crendon, they have actually been playing at Towersey for least two
season's, I saw the same game last season when Berinsfield were closing in on the league
title. The ground is the old Chinnor Rugby Club ground. |

Tomorrow's Central Conference game at Stafford is OFF. |

14/11/05 Leon Gladwell
Further to Dave's tantalising talk of the Coupe de France Round One, I am thinking about
going over on Eurostar on the Saturday for Lievin USA v Quevilly (4pm) followed by Lens v
Metz (8pm). Assuming I can get booked into a hotel in Lens, I'm then thinking of a game at
Kortrijk (3pm) and this is where I get stuck...I'd like to do Wasquehal at 6pm but can
perhaps Dave or Chris advise whether it's possible to reach Stade de Nord directly from
Kortrijk and if so, what station(s) do I need? I'd then hope to get the 21.06 back to
London. A quick answer would be much appreciated! Thanks. |

Anyone travelling to Belgium over the next few weeks and using local public transport
during their stay may be interested in a current promotional fare offered by Belgian
Railways. For 5 Euros (2nd Class) or 7 Euros (1st Class)a "Birthday Ticket"
allows return travel between any two Belgian stations on any Saturday or Sunday up to (and
including!)25th December. This ticket may, I believe, be used as either a day return or
for a weekend return journey(out Saturday, back Sunday) and represents fantastic value for
money. |

Further to Mick Burt's posting and advice. I attended the Holmans Sc vs Falmouth Town
Cornish cup tie. The club who are based in Camborne play just off Pendarves road, near to
the police station. As you enter the top car park, a large clubhouse which was an old two
floor manor house with three bar areas including sky, darts and pool tables. Walking out
down past the bowls green is where the dressing rooms are situated and where a table was
set up taking the £2 admission including a four page all colour programme. The dressing
room area included a snack bar, which sold tea, crisps and chocolate throughout the match.
The second team pitch is situated in front of this and between that and the first team
pitch was a cricket square. The 1st team pitch, was roped off along both sides with trees
enclosing the far side, together with permanent dugouts and a cricket scoreboard. A crowd
of around ninety watched Falmouth win by six goals to one. A nice set up and seven goals,
not bad for a 600 mile round trip from Kent. |

13/11/05 Dave Woodings
We recently watched 1860 München v Duisburg in the German Cup at the new Allianz Arena,
which is in North East Munich. Very smart new stadium, which incidentally has some
"safe standing" areas, but give me Grunwalder any day. Parking seems to be
fairly limited and a better option might be to park at one of the Park and Ride sites and
travel by U Bahn to the Stadium. The Stadium is served by the U6 to Fröttmaning station
and we travelled just one stop from the U6 terminus at Garching, which has a big (and
presently free) Park and Ride car park (also Etap and Ibis Hotels nearby) and is just off
the E45 road one junction north of the Munich ring. Although the stadium is not all that
far from the airport there is no direct train and it appears you have to go all the way
into Munich and back out again ! |
 |
13/11/05 Dave Woodings
French Cup - further to Chris Ashbridge's post re Wasquehal there are several
possibilities for 'doubles' on Saturday 19th at least e. g. Angers or Pontivy plus Laval,
Villers les Nancy and then Nancy in the French League 1. Loon Plage at 1430 on Sunday
would also double nicely with wasquehal. Details of all matches have not yet been posted
on fff.fr and I am still harbouring hopes that Bailleul will play on Saturday night,
giving the chance of a cross-channel double with a game in Kent. However if you are
thinking of going by car for the weekend both ferries and tunnel seem to be almost fully
booked from early Saturday morning till beyond lunchtime. |

13/11/05 Rob North
LONG CRENDON F.C. of the Oxfordshire Senior League are no longer at Chearsley Road (as in
Directory Part 2) but now play at Towersey Recreation Ground, Thame Road, Towersey. It's
to the east of Thame and 2 or 3 miles from Long Crendon. I believe they had a dispute over
use of the ground in Long Crendon. I saw a well-fought game there on Saturday with
Berinsfield beating their hosts 4-3. In fact with the home team having the bare eleven,
and no officials, I played the role of 'assistant referee' for the first 15 minutes until
their man turned up! |

On Saturday 12th November I attended the Harvey World Travel Midland Alliance
match between BIDDULPH VICTORIA and Alvechurch won 2-1 by the home club. Admission was
£4.00 with an excellent 44 page programme available for £1.00 including a glossy colour
cover in club colours of sky blue and maroon with plenty of content and stats etc. I
travelled by train to Stoke-On-Trent and caught a bus into the city centre at Hanley
before getting a regular bus service from the bus station to Biddulph (First Potteries 6a)
which run every 15 mins journey time about 35-40 mins. Return fare was just £2.25. The
town of Biddulph is fairly nondescript with a main high street running through it and a
handful of uninspiring pubs although there is a good Wetherspoons pub there. The ground is
just south of the town centre about 7 mins walk from the high street along Tunstall Road
on the left hand side. There is a nice clubhouse outside the ground which had Ruddles
County on handpump, and behind the near goal is a large area of cover, slightly angled
from the pitch, with the rest of the facilities nearby such as dressing rooms, toilets and
tea-bar. All the goals were in the first half with the 2nd half fairly uneventful. |

Further to my entry of 08/08/05 (see archive) Wasquehal are playing a French Cup
tie at the 'Annexe 1' ground at 6pm on Sunday 20th November, which gives anyone doing a
match by car in Belgium that day (particularly a 2.30pm ko) the opportunity to do a
double. See www.fff.fr for the full draw. |

Note - Scottish FA Youth Cup 3rd round - Ross Co v Girvan due this Sunday, 13/11,
now cancelled as Girvan have withdrawn (see p4 of this week's TFT).
Recent programme issues - Scottish Junior Cup R2, both Lesmhagow v Greenock and Glencairn
v Islavale last saturday had programmes. |

Re Marcus Allins' earlier posting regarding the Cornwall Senior Cup and programme
issuing, I do not believe it is compulsory but when clubs from the East Cornwall Premier
League and Cornwall Combination host South Western League opposition they generally make
the effort. Both Godolphin and Holmans are issuing this coming Saturday and Wendron did so
when visited by St. Blazey around four seasons ago. For what it's worth, both Godolphin
and Holmans have confirmed that their pitches drain superbly and no problems are
anticipated. Confronted by a 500 mile round trip over the weekend I hope they are right! |

FENITON F.C. of the Devon & Exeter League have started issuing programmes in
the last couple of weeks. I attended their home game at Station Road against Buckland
Athletic Reserves on Saturday 5th November which the home club won 2-1. Attendance was
around 40 and the ground is just a 5 minute walk from Feniton Railway Station on the line
that goes to Exeter. Two goals in the first 5 minutes by Feniton and it looked like the
game could end in a rout but credit to Buckland - they fought back and scored before
half-time with the second half fairly even with no further score. The ground is down
Station Road. You see Feniton Sports & Social Club on your left and about 150 yards
beyond that is the roped off pitch with dug-outs to your left. In the immediate corner is
a newish-looking building housing a spacious tea room, dressing rooms etc. Programmes were
available for £1 from here before the match but also were sold to the spectators during
the game. This consisted of a glossy full colour shell of 16 pages including photo of the
clubroom on the cover plus colour photos of the 1st & 2nd team squads inside, with a 4
page insert which changes for each match containing line-ups, match reports, player
profile etc. |

Further to Mick Newey's comments on Paderborn, the Hermann-Lons stadium is around an
hour's walk from Paderborn station, so if you go there for a 3pm kick-off which finishes
punctually and you are able to walk at a brisk pace, then a bus should be unnecessary. |
 |
8/11/05 Stuart James
Re: Andy Dakin & South Kirkby Colliery - YES they do have lights and have
hosted floodlit games there in the past in the S&H County Cup (Sheffield FC &
Worksop Town) as well as local league finals. The ground is of reasonable standard with a
covered "Kop" behind one goal, and a nice bar (outside the ground) and tea bar
(inside the ground). For the two games mentioned, programmes were issued (albeit of a
spartan variety) and decent sized crowds attended. Word of note - parking around the
ground is a bit limited so get there early! |
 |
8/11/05 Marcus Allin
Does anyone know if 'Home' teams have to issue programmes for the Cornwall Senior Cup, as
I know most JCCL clubs do not issue (although Hayle do!). Was looking at possibly going to
Godolphin, Wendron or Holmans on Saturday for their 2nd round ties against SWLl clubs. Any
information or previous experience would be appreciated in this matter. |
 |
7/11/05 Mick Newey
If you have not yet visited newly-promoted SC Paderborn O7's Hermann-Löns-Stadion there
should be more chance to do so than previously thought as, judging by the latest photos in
Sunday's matchday newspaper, it would seem that the new Paragon Arena is unlikley to be
ready by January as originally planned - only one end appears to be anywhere near complete
and two sides are only foundations. The current ground is not actually in Paderborn city
but in the adjacent town of Schloss Neuhaus. Buses run from Paderborn Hbf to Schloss
Neuhaus centre which is a 15 min walk from the stadium. After the game special buses
operate to the Hbf but they are severly hampered by traffic on the road from the the
stadium so don't rely on getting an early train - I just made the 1751 after a 1645
finish. |

Thanks for the new format of the noticeboard - the white background is much
easier to read than the old green one. I am surprised that Mark Wilson chose to visit Le
Havre for a league cup tie rather than a league game, because many foreign clubs only
produce programmes for league games and not cup ties. By the way, with regard to my post
of 4/10/05, I decided go to to Consett rather than Wellington in the FA Vase on Sat 29th
Oct. Excellent programme (with some colour photos) at Consett, but an uneventful game saw
them lose 0-1 to an impressive and well-organised Cammell Laird team. |

Programme collectors may be interested to know that Kent County League MILTON ATHLETIC
will be issuing one of their rare programmes on Saturday 26 November when they entertain
Greenwich Borough in the Kent Senior Trophy. The club secretary Paul Duffin told me this
at Rusthall on Saturday. For Keith Dawson - Gloria hails from Grimsby but subsequently
lived in Scotter, Thornton Curtis, Scunthorpe and Barton-upon-Humber before we met in
1980!! |

Following on from Craig Dabbs' piece on Four Crosses, I can confirm they issued a
20 pager (£2 with admission) for yesterday's game with Waterloo Rovers. Nice glossy cover
and most of the basics are included. There is room for improvement but as it was only
their second ever effort it's a good start. Whilst at the game I also saw a Wem Town prog
from this season (Shropshire Co Lge) and I had confirmation that West Lancs newcomers
Trimpell are finally issuing after a few false alarms. |
 |
30/10/05 Andy Langford
I went to Greenwich Borough on Saturday for their 1st round FA Vase match against Colliers
Wood United and achieved a first in 16 years of watching games in this competition -
namely, a club who hadn't issued a programme. I was under the impression that issueing was
compulsory for FA competitions, but obviosly not. Just a warning to any paper chasers for
future reference regarding FA Vase ties. |
 |
29/10/05 Andy Molden
Don't know much about Northern Cup, but I noticed last season one of the reasons Fegg
Hayes got so far behind was that they got to the final / semi's in it. I remember seeing a
result for the final played on a smaller non league ground in Liverpool, it was either
played the last Saturday in May or even the 1st one in June. It would appear to be for a
cup for Intermediate (?) teams in Staffs, Cheshire and Merseyside, though this is only
what I can cobble together from fixtures played by Fegg Hayes and what you have written. |

Re Peter Abbott's report re Hanworth Villa in this week's TFT, I can confirm that when I
visited this ground in 2002/3, the main pitch ran widthways in front of the clubhouse as
Pete described. The pitch @ 45 degrees to the main pitch was used that season by the now
defunct Western Command as Villa's reserves also used the main pitch. Since Western
Command folded, Marsh Rangers have used the "other" pitch - they may use the
main pitch now though as I am not sure whether Villa's reserves still use the main pitch
or not. That's not to say that Villa did not use the "other" pitch prior to my
visit at some stage. |
 |
26/10/05 Keith Dawson
In response to Mick Burt's excellent piece on my home town club Caistor Rovers in this
weeks issue,it's not the football pitch which has moved but the cricket pitch which was
where the football pitch is now until 1985.until that time the space where the cricket
pitch is now was agricultural land and the old buildings which Mick refers to were the
cricket pavilion (very cramped) and tea room. Now I'm just curious where Gloria comes
from!! |

Does anyone know anything about the Northern Cup? The next round takes place on
Saturday 26th November, kick off 2 pm, and Stafford Rangers Stripes have been drawn away

other ties being played that day which may be of interest. |

In reply to Ralph Pomeroy's enquiry, Cathkin Park is home to Scottish Amateur Football
League club Glencastle Sparta. Their fixtures can be located via
www.scottishamateurfa.co.uk then clicking leagues-scottish afl- fixtures. Go into league
table for Premier Division One (there are 3 Premier Divisions and 2 others- avoid Div 2
where Sparta Res play) and click on the club name to get details for club secretary.
Fixtures are posted around a week in advance. The club have a web site but it doesn't seem
to be updated very often. The ground is well worth a visit. Although the main stand has
long gone there remain huge banks of terracing complete with original crush barriers,
gangways and some perimeter wall. Some of it has been landscaped but it is still
remarkable for a ground that last staged league football in 1967. The pitch is poor and a
visit in wet weather is not recommended, particularly as the club may switch to another
venue.
This league has several large grounds including Dunoon Stadium and Rothesay Brandane on
the Isle of Bute. Both have terracing and sizeable seated stands. |

Four Crosses of the Mid Wales League are issuing programmes this season, I

With Regard to Mark Wilson's query about Le Havre, buying a ticket should be
easy, particularly as they are in the second division at present, and you will find that
buying one for the main stand will be cheaper than in the FL. However, they are very
irregular producers of programmes, so don't expect one there. make sure you call in at the
club shop (corner of main stand) in case there is some sort of publication there which
isn't available inside the ground. The stadium is a long walk from the ferry terminal (1
hour) and from the rail station (approx 45 mins.) |
 |
20/10/05 Leo Hoenig
Le Havre should be easy enough to access as they are middling in Division Two.
They have their own website, put the name of the club Le Havre AC into any search engine -
or start searching from www.fff.fr - the ground is easy to find, just off the main road
going out of town. Tickets should not be a problem. Just give yourself time to find them,
as many clubs in France require buying the tickets from the ticket office, not the gate.
Any programme would be large size but thin on content. It would either be free or very
cheap. Keep your eyes open before entering the ground. I got a prog for a match there two
seasons ago |

Just read Dave Denton's posting (10/10) re Stansfeld Oxford & Bermondsey FC who play
at the Greenwich University Sports Ground. I visited the club towards the end of last

seats and a roof but is now totally covered in graffiti. Cheers! |

Where can I get fixtures for games at Cathkin Park. I've been twice but just to

I went to West End in Swansea last Saturday for the Welsh Trophy game against
Llandridnod Wells. For the benefit of anyone thinking of going the ground is only one mile
from the City Centre but 500 foot above. The entrance is up a small drive Prideri Footpath
from Eigen Crescent and is a new ground this year apparantly with the previous ground
being a recreation ground on Townhill Road |

Can I just offer my thanks to Stephen, Peter, Chris and Leo for their info and help on my
proposed Belgian double. My plans were a little sketchy but thanks to your help I have now

The Belgium FA ID cards, which were never required below Division 2 anyway, were
scrapped for this season. |
 |
17/10/05 Stephen Harris
More on Union St Gilloise for Leon Gladwell. Trams 55 and 18 pass nearest to the
ground - but check a map. There are prominent signs at the ticket office reminding
spectators that they must show their Belgian FA identity cards when purchasing a match
ticket - but nobody minded that I did not have one when I visited on 4 Sept this year. No
programmes were issued for that match, but a teamsheet was distributed to spectators in
the central area of the main Tribune. |

Godolphin Atlantic are making excellent progress in the East Cornwall Premier League after
winning virtually all available silverware in the Duchy League. I saw this Newquay located
club overcome a battling Biscovey side 2-0 on October 15th in front of 35 spectators.
Godolphin Field - as the ground is known locally - is in Godolphin Way, off Henver Road
(A3058), the turning being immediately opposite "The Godolphin" pub. The roped
pitch, which is hard & bumpy, slopes from top to bottom and there is no cover. The
largest building on the Duchy of Cornwall owned ground is that used by the local scouts'
group, but there are brick dressing-rooms behind the top end goal and concrete block dug
outs on one side. Houses border all 4 sides. Social facilities are provided at the
aforesaid pub which is run by club founder and overall leading light, Margaret Ashwood.
She is ably supported by her daughter and granddaughter in the administering of this
friendly little club. The Ashwoods have issued programmes in the recent past apparently
but insufficient sales discouraged them from doing so on a regular basis. No issues are
planned at present, although I did my best to persuade anyone who'd listen that renewed
production would be a good idea! |

In response to Leon Gladwell, Union St Gilloise (matricule No 10, founded in
1897, meaning they were around during the first season of Belgian football) play at Stade
Joseph Marien which is great venue just off Chausee de Bruxelle and is not too far away
from the Brussels Midi Station where the Eurostar trains arrive. There are local maps at
street corners and it is not difficult to find. Please note that the Anderlecht game that
weekend has been brought forward to 18-00 Saturday. Union ko 15-00 on the sunday. |
 |
13/10/05 Chris Ashbridge
In response to Leon's reply, both the Anderlecht and Union St.Gilles grounds are within 30
minutes walk (in different directions) of the main Midi/Zuid railway station. However,
Anderlecht's ground is near to a metro station if you don't want to walk that far. I have
checked www.footbel.com and it appears that the Anderlecht game kicks off at 6pm rather
than 8pm. If you are flexible about when you return, Standard Liege apparently ko at 6pm
on Sunday which would give you a chance to do a 3pm ko as well in either the 3rd/4th
division or the Liege provincial league. |
 |
13/10/05 Leo Hoenig
Guess Leon has to do the two games on successive days - they do not come up on
the same day very often (they did when I went in 1990!). Cannot remember all the details,
but suggest looking at www.rusg.be and www.footbel.com - for looking at addresses of
clubs, you may have to use the French/Flemish language parts. It is always worth looking
at the assignments on Footbel, from about 10 days before your game, this always confirms
kick off time, address and referee's name. I think it can be walked from Brussels South,
and trams, etc may also provide a better bet than rail from the centre |
 |
13/10/05 Leon Gladwell
I'm planning a Brussels ouble-header on 5th/6th November taking in games at

nearest. Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Greenwich University Sports Ground: Most readers may be aware that the above ground
currently used by Stansfeld Oxford & Bermondsey Club of the Kent County League was
previously that used by Thames Polytechnic in their Kent Senior League days. The view from

Further to Keith Lawsons earlier message re CAISTOR ROVERS. I couldn't resist Rovers first
home game v Limestone Rangers on September 17th.Like Keith, I was also brought up in
the area (North Kelsey - ex West Wolds League, club & ground defunct but I did see my
first game there in 1950 something and have a couple of my dads club medals from the
1930's !). Enough of this irrelevant woffle, what you need to know is that Caistor are
indeed issuing as expected from the Shackleton family of Grimsby Amateurs & later
Immingham & GA fame. Rovers share changing facilities with Caistor Town Cricket Club
(Lincs ECB League) although the pitch is totally separate, part railed and roped off.
Rovers played their first four games away from home because of the cricket but enjoyed
their home debut with a 4-0 victory over fellow strugglers Limestone (themselves not
issuing these days). They have a young side having stepped up from the Grimsby League 2nd
division and expect to struggle. However I notice they took Sleaford Town to extra time
and penalties in the Lincs Cup this last weekend. Well worth a visit in the lovely
Lincolnshire Wolds. If travelling north via the A46 make a short detour to the idyllic
village of Tealby near Market Rasen, both pubs have real ale and do food. |

AFC Blackley in the Manchester League have a new ground this season. They've left the

22/9/05 Peter Ford
On a visit to Cambridge University Press (CUP) last Saturday, on the way to Stansted

presented effort it was too - they aim to issue for all home games this season.I also
got a free programme from the Estonia U18 v Denmark U18 game at the Kadriorg Staadion on
Tuesday - admission free, crowd of approx 30, so clearly football not a major spectator
sport in Estonia |

A bit of information regarding this seasons Lincolnshire League. There are four new

issue despite the fact that the old secretary of Retford Rail,Mick Keelig, used to do
so.Apart from a small clubhouse there's nothing here at all.CGB Humbertherm play on
Chartdale Sports ground on the border of Grimsby/Cleethorpes,sharing it with Grimsby
Borough Reserves.Travel through Grimsby towards Cleethorpes and once you've passed Weelsby
Woods, distinctive for it's large stone lions, and then passed Grimsby Boroughs original
ground,King George V Stadium,it's about 100 yards on the left on the roundabout at
Chartdale Sports Ground! Once again no knowledge of programmes. The most interesting new
team may however be Caistor Rovers, run by the previous management of Grimsby
Amateurs.Their official address is Brigg Road although watching from Kelsey Road may be
easier. This is a beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds Town (OK so I was brought up here and lived
here for 30 years) and well worth a visit. The ground is approached just before a sharp
bend on the Caistor - Brigg Road, turn left and you reach the car park and see the social
club. It's about 100 yards walk from here to the pitch, some roped off, some railed off.The
best point however is that I understand they may be issuing having asked permission from
the town council to use their logo.I was going to ask my mum to attend their first home
game yesterday but owing to illness that wasn't a good idea but if I see anything I'll let
people know. On other Lincolnshire matters the 3RD September presented a double.Noon kick
off for Grimsby Borough v Hatfield Main (2-1),the ground is now fully,if temporarily,
enclosed with the only cover being the roof near the changing rooms.3P.M.saw LSS Lucarlys
v Santos (2-2) in nearby Humberston,no cover,no gate taken but a decent proframme for a
quid. They plan to move in a couple of years and certainly need to do so.Pitch not even
totally railed off. |

Programme collectors may like to note that Wincanton Town (Somerset County League,
Division Two) are issuing this season, but on a selective basis. The intention is to
produce a programme for cup fixtures or other games such as local derbies where a larger
than usual attendance might be expected. I saw the game against Cutters Friday (Bristol)
on Saturday (att : 28), but since the whole world seemed to be heading for RAF Yeovilton's
Air Day, I had to make do with back copies which were available in the very impressive
Maddocks Pavilion. Wincanton Town play at The Sports Ground, Moor Lane which is not
signposted as far as I could see. There are signs to The Sports Centre but I believe this
is an entirely separate facility. Take the second turning on the right if entering the
town from the south west off the A303. Having been out of touch with non-league news for
some time, I was not prepared for the quality of the ground development that has taken
place here. The pitch is fully railed with canvas advertising flaps displayed at intervals
and there are spacious concrete block based dug outs on the near side. Opposite is a stand
which would not look out of place in the Hellenic or Western Leagues, for example. Quite a
surprise! |

Today's (Thursday 15/9) Oxford Mail reports MIDDLE BARTON have resigned from the Hellenic
league due to lack of players. |

It seems to be a bad couple of weeks for teams resigning from their leagues. Both Middle
Barton and Shotton Comrades appear to have resigned today, following (at least) Old
Altrinchamians, Marconi Athletic and Tuffley Rovers as all mentioned in Vol 19 Issue 6 |

On Friday night (9/9) we visited Dutch League newcomers FC Omniworld who play at the
newly-built exotically-named Mitsubishi Forklift Stadion in Almere. This stadium, which
has a "field grass" surface, has seating for 2500 and standing for probably
another 1500-1800. Omniworld have made a disstraous start, with only one point in six
games and crowds have already dropped below 2000. In our game they were well beaten 0-5 by
Venlo. We travelled by road, leaving the A6 at junction 6, signposted Almere Stad and
Almere Buiten. After about a mile and a half we turned left into Veluwedreef (signposted
"Fanny Blankers Koen Stadion") and then right into Marathonlaan. Because there
was a World Cup baseball match at the nearby FBK Stadion, we were directed to parking some
way away from the Omniworld stadium although it looks as if you can normally park almost
outside. For those going by public transport Almere Parkwijk looks the nearest station
about a mile away although Almere Zentraal does not look much further away and there
looked to be plenty of buses. The Fanny Blankers Koen Stadion seems to be shown on most
maps and is about 400 yards south of Omniworld. |

In response to Scott's questions regarding Hungary, I can confirm that that Andrashida is
a rather wealthy district of Zelaegerszeg. Andrashida are doing well at the moment having
been promoted from county football to NBIII last season and the ground, although small,
has excellent facilities having been built for the last womens under-19 Euro
Championships. I've not been but have watched a number of games in Hungary and hear good
things about this team! Hope it helps. Almost forgot - the stadium is the Andrashidai
Sportscentrum and has 200 covered seats and a capacity of around 3000. back to the
cricket! |

Just for info re Woodley Sports, they have installed the exact same fieldturf
surface as we (Hamilton Accies) have, after visiting us last January. The rules in the SFA
and SFL were changed in advance to allow it. I am surprised the English FA (who are
enthusiastic backers of these surfaces) have not yet changed their rules. Woodley Sports
will greatly benefit through increased community usage in the long run, as well as
financially. |
 |
9/9/05 Chris Bedford
Even though Woodley Sports are playing the home FA Cup and FA Youth cup ties on
alternative grounds, home Unibond League games are still being played at their usual
Lambeth Grove home. Their new articifial pitch (which provides an excellent surface) can't
be used for FA games. I saw their 3-1 win over Bamber Bridge on Tuesday evening,
attendance 101. |

Looking for any info on the Municipal Stadium, Andrashida, Hungary (about 20 mins from
Zalaergeszeg). I'm seeing two games there, and one at Zal, at the end of the month in UEFA
u17 internationals. I can't even find Andrashida on map! Anyobe been or know which team
play there? Thanks |

I watched Bovey Tracey play a midweek game on a third ground recently. This was the
scenically situated Mill Marsh Park. Like Bullands Meadow, it is also off Monks Way
(Moretonhampstead Road) and the players still have to change at The Recreation Ground and
drive down here. At least the ground is owned by the club and further development is
planned with a permanent move here a longer term possibility still. Nigel Call provided
copies of the excellent programme he's produced in recent years and told me he plans to
recommence issuing once the club moves back to the Recreation Ground after the cricket
season finishes. I saw a reasonably entertaining 2-0 win over Chagford, but the highlight
for me was a second half appearance overhead by a loud calling Merlin as it went looking
for its evening meal! |

Just to add a couple of points related to recent posts.Wicor Mill (see Steve King's
post)was the original name of AFC Portchester, and they seem therefore to be returning to
their old ground.
Newhall (see Christopher Ashbridge's post) were unable to raise a side last Saturday
for the away game at Northfield. |

Shotton Comrades have been unable to fulfil their last 2 Wearside League fixtures due to

their fixtures for the present time. |

Amongst recent visits I have been to; Crowland Town in the Peterborough League who have
moved in order to gain promotion and now play behind the school in Postland Road,
Crowland.
I also went to Eastmoor in the West Riding League where there are two railed off
pitches with the Rugby League ground being floodlit. A small sized programme was issued
this being their first but should be regular all season.
Finally a question the Ettington fixture under lights for Tuesday has vanished from the
Mid Comb fixture list. Do they have lights or was this a misunderstanding? |

With regard to my post of 25th Aug - if anyone is curious to know what I did after the
Chinnor game on Bank Holiday Monday, the answer is - I went for Plan A, as I had a 'hunch'
that the Newhall Utd game would be played at their ground, and fortunately this proved to
be correct. (Mind you, the 1-1 scoreline hides the fact that both goals diid not arrive
until 2nd half stoppage time!) Admission was £2 and a 20 page programme was available
for only 50 pence, with a colour photo and the match details on the front cover. Newhall
seem to be developing a reputation for being consistent issuers.
As for the pitch problems, the drainage problems that occurred last season were caused
by a considerable slope having been levelled during the summer of 2004. The pitch looked
OK on my visit, but a wet winter might prove otherwise. Another complication that has
recently arised is that the club are apparently in hot water with the local council
because it seems that the pitch levelling work may possibly undermine the foundations of
new houses which have been built next door to the ground and this could result in
subsidence in the long term.
So, my conclusion is - a good day out, but if you want to visit Newhall United, doing
so within the next month or so might be a good idea. |

Wessex League Division Three club AFC PORTCHESTER have moved grounds. They have moved away
from The Community School in White Hart Lane and are now located about 200-300 yards up
the road at the Wickor Recreation Ground at the end of Cranleigh Road. I attended their
August Bank Holiday game v. Hamble Club which AFC Portchester won 2-1. It is quite basic
being just a roped-off pitch and dressing rooms in one corner. The club are putting in an
application for floodlights and there is potential for improvements as there is plenty of
room to expand should the club wish to make the facilities better or the club progresses.
No gate was taken and no programme was issued for the game. |

I think visitors to Buckland Athletic's brand new set up will be impressed with what they
see. Homers Heath is located in what was South Quarry along the Kingskerswell Road, well
past Decoy Park. I'd estimate it being around a 20 minute walk from Newton Abbot Station.
The first car-park is found immediately inside the entrance to the right of the large
brick social club/dressing-room block. This has tables & chairs on the outside patio
as well as comfortable seating inside where all the usual facilities are on offer. Only
keg beer at the bar, I'm afraid! Hot & cold snacks are served from a kitchen kiosk. To
one side of the left hand goal is a small "temporary" stand and the ground is
open elsewhere. The pitch is enclosed by a wooden fence surmounted by railing and the dug
outs are on the opposite side which is steeply banked. It's possible to park on the top -
which is what I did - and enjoy an excellent elevated view of the game. A
"proper" stand is planned on thi!s banked side and grant aid is being applied
for. Lights are under discussion, I was told. As usual, Buckland's programme (£2.50 with
admission) is full of info and the whole impression is of a club intent on going places. I
saw the second home "derby" of the weekend and after a 3-1 win over Newton Abbot
Spurs on the Saturday, very close neighbours Newton Abbot were beaten 2-1 with a twice
taken penalty ("saved" initially) just before the end. |

On Bank Holiday Monday evening Shipston Excelsior played their home game against
Wellesbourne on their "second pitch" as the main pitch has several large cracks
in it. The second pitch is at least 250 yards from the main one, past the cricket ground
and separated by a hedge, so some Travellers might regard this as a totally separate
ground. Contrary to rumour Shipston did issue - a very basic eight pager - but appeared to
have produced only SIX copies ! |

I have been informed that Shillington (Spartan South Midlands League, Division 1) have
folded. Although their fixtures have appeared in The Traveller as well as local papers,
they tendered their resignation to the league well before the season started. Lack of
willing committee members is the apparent reason. |

I went to Leicestershire Senior League newboys Lutterworth Athletic yesterday,
they play at the old Lutterworth Town ground in Dunley Way. From Lutterworth town centre
take the A426 Leicester Rd, take a left into Crescent Rd, which becomes Dunley Way. The
ground is at the top of Dunley Way, just before the road becomes Sherrier Way. A left turn
just before the bend in the road. A drive way leads you to a nicely enclosed ground, it
is railed on the near side and behind the top goal. Canvas dugouts in club colours are on
the halfway line. Behind the top goal is a well stocked clubhouse, which also houses the
dressing rooms. Tarmac parking is located next to the clubhouse.
The game I saw was against Huncote, both sides had won their previous game, the away
side won 1-0, which did not reflect the homesters percentage of play. The second half was
marred by three bouts of "handbags". The referee was a young lady from Leicester
University. Attendance 34 - head count.
The club do not at present issue proggies but may in the future, the club Chairman said
he had already had a number of phone calls asking if the issued.
My pre match meal was from the Harry Haddock Chip Shop, which is 400 yards away in
Central Avenue, they are one of the clubs sponsors.
The club would like to progress further but fear the closeness of houses to the ground
may stop their quest. |

An update from yesterdays message re Curzon Ashton. The ground graders have with immediate
effect given the club the go ahead to commence league games at their new ground, and as
such Mondays game v Trafford will now take place there. Saturdays cup game versus Garforth
Town will also take place at the new ground as originally planned. |
 |
26/8/05 Colin Peel
Thanks for clearing up the Curzon mystery. I saw part of the Darwen match and noticed the
lack of pitch perimeter (and hence advertising). To walk round the stadium you had to walk
on the terrace steps instead of the floor level path. The stadium is excellent and would
look at home in the Conf North. Very close to the Ashton northern by-pass, ample parking
for a typical crowd, terracing right around the ground, part covered, attractive stand.
Northwich Victoria also has no ground advertising at present, but the club says this is
because they are still in administration and any advertising revenue would go to the
administrators. When they are out of admin they will accept advertising. |

Travellers may have noted a new name in the Oxfordshire Senior League this season, namely
Garden City. I have spoken to Bill and he has told me they are basically last season's
Islip FC, though locally Garden City are a successful Boys, Girls and Youth team so I
presume a merger and move has taken place. They play at the Stratfield Brake Sports
Ground, this is at the south end of Kidlington, it is actually excessed off of a dual
carrageway, so it has to approached from the A34 leaving at Peartree Roundabout, taking
the A44 signed Evesham and Woodstock and then bearing right after 150 yards at the next
smaller roundabout, signed Kidlington and Bicester (I think the sports ground is signed on
this roundabout). The ground then appears on your left before the large
"Sainsbury's" Roundabout at the south end of Kidlington.
The ground is a brand new sports complex which is also home to Gosford All Blacks RFC
and Kidlington CC. |

Coventry City Reserves v Portsmouth on Tuesday 6th September will be played at Rugby
Town's Butlin Road Ground as will all but 4 of their games. These will be played at The
Arena.Fellow travellers will be deeply saddened to hear that John Clarke of Coventry
passed away on Tuesday after a short illness. I will pass on details of his funeral when
his son informs me of the date. |

25/8/05 David Nuttell
Travellers may like to know the latest situation about Curzon Ashtons new ground.
They played their game last week in the FA Cup against Darwen at the new ground, but the
ground cannot be used for league games as yet as there is no railing around the pitch.
Saturdays home game in the cup will also be at the new ground, but Mondays league game v
Trafford will revert to Abbey Hey. Hopefully the required railing will be in place
shortly, but in the meantime travellers are advised to ring the club for the latest
position. |
 |
25/8/05 Chris Ashbridge
I will almost certainly be at the 11am kick-off at Chinnor on Monday, but after that it
will either be Plan A or Plan B, as follows;A) - Go to Newhall v. Burntwood (5.45pm)as
it is possible to travel there by train via Princes Risborough and Birmingham.(see
www.nationalrail.co.uk) However, given that Newhall have had problems with their ground of
late, I would welcome any advice on this one.
B) Go to Littleton v. Archdale (also 5.45pm) and hopefully taking in a revisit to
Evesham at 3pm, although this would require a lift to Oxford station, or direct to
Evesham. I will pay a share of the petrol costs, so this may appeal to anyone who is going
in that direction after Chinnor.
Please e-mail me or see me at Trowbridge (Sunday) or Chinnor. Thanks. |

Just a quick confirmation that Sunday's FA Cup tie between Stourbridge and Kidsgrove
Athletic will be played at Stourbridge FC with a 15:00 kick off. A special arrangement has
been made with the cricket club to allow for a rare home game in August, so this will be
played at Amblecote. |
