31/10/07 15:48 Harvey Freemantle - Not quite early enough to squeeze in a double, but Gillford Park's Cumberland Cup Second Round fixture with Aspatria will kick-off at 1.30pm on Saturday at the Gillford Park Stadium. The same fixture last season ended 4-4 aet so a competitive encounter is guaranteed. A 24-page programme WILL be issued, and club badges on sale. To reserve yours please email HarleyFreemantle@aol.com
30/10/07 09:10 Graeme Holmes - Can anyone help with grounds for matches tonight please 30/10? Darlaston and Wednesbury are both down to play, Bolehall and Dotshill as well, amongst others, and according to directories these teams share grounds

28/10/07 20:51 Rob North - Correction the TFT Directory Part 2 JEANFIELD SWIFTS moved from Simpson Park early last season and now play at Riverside Stadium, Bute Drive, North Muirton, Perth
28/10/07 00:29 Stuart J. Pykett - In reply to Nic Adamou: Coincidently,I was thinking of going to Tadley this Sat.27th v Totton & Eling. However on phoning the Secretary he said they were trying to get a temporary prog.done for Saturday. As it sounded 'iffy' I visited Horndeans' quaint little ground instead.Well worth a visit.Twelve page informative prog.issued.
28/10/07 00:06 Stuart J. Pykett - According to the Lincolnshire League website: "Keelby Utd. have applied to resign from the league with immediate effect. All the clubs 'matches have been postponed and the matter will be resolved at the league management committee meeting on 15th Nov."
21/10/07 20:57 Nic Adamou - Went to Tadley Calleva yesterday (20/10) for the official opening of thier Barlows Park Ground (although they had already been using it for home games). Facilities are certainly a step up from where they were playing a couple of years ago although will soon need improving if they want to progress further. One downside from yesterday was the lack of a programme, which I thought was complsory at this level. Does anyone know if this was a one off, or do Tadley just not bother ?. Beginning to wonder if they have ever issued, as I went to 'The Green' a couple of years back and didn't get one there either. (Webmaster - Sorry Nic I missed this one)
26/10/07 22:10 Chris Bedford - If anyone had doubts, the new Stone Dominoes ground at Yarnfield is a new venue and is located to the south of the car park. There is an overlap with the old training area next to the clubhouse. The original four pitches at the Yarnfield complex (pitches 1-4), which some travellers will be familiar with, remain intact. Incidently, programmes, for a crowd of 113, sold out hour an hour before kick-off.
26/10/07 09:53 Bill Berry - Sunday 28th October - West Wales Cup-Trostre v West End(2-00)(programme will be issued; details of this match kindly provided by Len Spierenburg)
Tues 30th October - Gloucestershire Trophy 1st Round-Shortwood v Henbury Sussex Senior Cup 2nd Round-Crowborough v Sidley Sussex RUR Cup 3rd Round-Redhill v Whitehawk Sussex County League Cup 3rd Round-Ringmer v St Francis
Friday 2nd November - Sussex County League Div One-Oakwood v East Preston
25/10/07 21:04 George and Maureen Osborne - A PS to our request for information and subsequent visit to take in a weekend of Dutch football.

Our first game Stormvogels Telstar v Den Bosch presented no problems whatsoever. The ground is very close to the town centre of Ijmuiden. Ten euros purchased a ticket to the main stand to what looked like a very English ground. Stands on 2 sides with covered seating behind one goal. The game was good value, between 2nd bottom v 2nd top and ended up 1-0 to Den Bosch. An excellent programme was given away and at the end of the game sad to relate there were loads left, unused. As usual in Holland the people were extremely friendly and we were invited into the 'fan home' for a drink and a chat.

Saturday night Ajax v N.E.C and here we come up against the hypocrisy of the Premier League, in theory we should have needed a fan card to allow us to buy tickets, however, because we were prepared to pay for a 'package' this was waived. The ground is absolutely superb. The football totally abysmal, lacking in passion, skill and enthusiasm. Not at all what we expected. Perhaps Japp Stam knew better than we did because he failed to appear for the second half. Once again an excellent programme with a cover price of 1 euro 95 cents was given away free. An experience but not something we should care to repeat regularly.

Sunday, the best of all. Vitesse 22 v Veeren in the preliminary rounds of the cup competition. A definite non-league feel to this (Northern Counties East), the team is based in the town of Castricum. The ground is 5 minutes from the railway station, the pitch is dedicated to the first team of Vitesse 22 in a large, extremely well kept sports area. There is a seated stand down one side of the pitch facing 3 or 4 concrete steps on the opposite terracing. This was probably the best game of the three ending in Vitesse 22 winning with the very last kick of the game.

All in all a smashing weekend. All 3 grounds were within a 15 mile radius of Ijmuiden, the ferry terminal for the service from Newcastle. As we've found in Holland the people are incredibly friendly and the average football fan even more so. This does not include the officials at AZ Alkmaar who couldn't be bothered to reply to our emails and telephone call. All the more reason to stick to the Juliper league and below.

PS On our last day we discovered in the local equivelant of W H Smith 'Voetbal International 2007-2008 DE HOOFDKLASSERS'. This is an excellent full colour magazine giving details on all teams below the Juliper league. It includes fixtures, addresses and email addresses. At 4.10 euros it can be considered the bible of the Dutch non-league game.
24/10/07 10:51 Chris Bedford - The Stone Dominoes v Leek CSOB game originally scheduled for last night will now be played tonight (Wednesday) at their new Yarnfield ground.
22/10/07 22:25 Webmaster - OUT NOW - TFT DIRECTORY PART 2 JUST £4-00 (inc P&P). contact the TFT office (01386 853289) for more details, cheques payable to 'The Football Traveller' TFT DIRECTORY PART 1 ALSO £4-00 (inc P&P).
19/10/07 14:15 Graham Paine - Does anyone who went to Llangefni v Haverfordwest on Sunday have a spare programme? Only 40 were printed and they were sold out when I went in the ground. Cost plus postage and packing would of course be paid. (PaiMelin@aol.com)
18/10/07 19:58 Mark Bembridge - Can anyone please advise on buying tickets for Spain v sweden on 17th November at the Bernabea. Me and my friend are going madrid to see it but would prefer to have tickets beforehand without paying silly money for them. Does anyone know an official ticket website or telephone number were i can purchase tickets beforehand.
18/10/07 17:32 Dr Kenneth Nisbet - After a successful trip to Geneva at the September holiday weekend (took in games at Etoile Carouge and Servette), we are planning our April jaunt. Budapest very much favourite it seems. Has anyone got any useful info, tips, dos and don’ts about games there? Thanks in advance!
18/10/07 12:36 Peter Ford - Went to Llandudno last night - discovered that Bodedern have resigned from the Cymru Alliance with immediate effect - they could not raise a team for last Saturday's match, and this Saturday's game at Llandudno has been cancelled. Bodedern's reservices will continue in the Gwynedd League
18/10/07 08:02 Chris Freer - I've noted with interest recent postings regarding entry to Dutch football grounds and thought I'd add the following to the mix. In November this year we're going to Willem II and arranged tickets (13euro each) via e-mail. They are very helpful and there was no mention of the dreaded 'clubcard' here. We are also visiting Ajax but we have had to buy one of their packages, in our case a meal and drink prior to the match. This has cost us the princely sum of 85 euros each (including match ticket). Our Friday night game is at Excelsior who are playing Sparta in a local derby. No response from the club so I contacted one of their fan-sites and the guy there is buying tickets for us and meeting us at the ground - a fine gesture as he doesn't know us from Adam! Prior to arranging this schedule I contacted Alkmaar and Heerenveen. The former informed us it was impossible to gain entry without a clubcard, and they couldn't sell us a clubcard because we didn't live in Holland - forward-thinking club, this! Heerenveen say they only sell to members, as their ground is over-subscribed. Possibly the same tactic we employed getting tickets for Excelsior might work with these two, maybe. From last season we can report no problems getting tickets for NAC Breda (ring in advance and purchase from their ticket office), Roda (ring in advance and fill in clubcard application at ground when paying for tickets) and Vitesse Arnham (ring in advance and tickets are waiting for you at ground). Hope this info is of use to someone.
15/10/907 03:52 Harvey Freemantle (sorry this message was initially missed) - Northern Alliance Second Division outfit Shields United will producing their first ever programme for Saturdays league encounter with the divisions only unbeaten club, Killingworth YPC. Shields play at the Chuter Ede Community Association on Galsworthy Road, South Shields, and you can reserve your copy by emailing editor/secretary Gareth Allen at gareth.allen@essengineering.co.uk or via
16/10/07 12:06 Leon Murray - Tividale v Dudley Town Tuesday 16th October 7.45 pm kick off
16/10/07 11:15 Tony Dunmore - Out of interest, I went to Germinal Beerschot v Charleroi last month, buying tickets at the stadium just before the game without any need for any id (or even speaking anything but English!). Only tricky thing was that for drink you had to buy a voucher at one kiosk which you could exchange at the bar. Antwerp is a fantastic weekender, lovely city, great beer and the ground is easily accessed from the metro from Centraal Station. Highly recommneded.
16/10/07 06:56 Trevor Pike - (Message forwarded to Steve Shirley)
15/10/07 22:45 John Delaney - Bodedern have today (15 October) resigned from the Cymru Alliance. Last Saturday they were unable to raise a team for the planned fixture. It seems that the Reserve team will continue in the Gwynedd League. A few fixture changes this coming Saturday: the Llandudno v Lex XI game is postponed and Llandudno will be without a game (although they are playing Holyhead this coming Wednesday evening, 17 October). Lex XI will play Bala Town in a CA League Cup fixture with a 2pm kick off. The reduction of teams in the CA to 17 will, of course, mean one club having a fixture free Saturday from now on. John Delaney (Secretary Llandudno FC)
15/10/07 09:52 Steve Hardy - Further to Roderick Grubb’s query on the Warley Rugby club ground in Oldbury, I watched the FA Sunday cup derby there yesterday between Bartley Green Social and Bartley Green Sunday. Upon entering the ground there is a properly railed off ground with dugouts in front of you which is where the match was played. Behind that there is a second unrailed off football pitch, and way off in the distance is a rugby pitch. B.N.J.S Mann play on this railed off pitch I was told, but I can’t confirm that Albright & Wilson used it as I never saw them play. Incidentally, for fellow paper chasers, the Bartley Green Social programme is a regular issue for games in the Warley & District Sunday league.
12/10/07 22:31 Mark McIntyre - Dudley Town v Wolverhampton Casuals@ The Dell Sports Stadium KO 1.00pm.  I believe Dudley Sports v Bustleholme is still 3.00pm - best for fans to check
12/10/07 11:14 Dave McClean - Anyone travelling to Brandon United should be aware that the club was a victim of recent vandalism, to their dugouts, resulting in Wednesday's match being postponed as FA rules don't allow matches to take place without dugouts.
12/10/07 10:39 Bill Berry - Additional early kick-offs for tomorrow: FA Cup 3rd Round Qualifying - Harrogate T v Clitheroe is at 1pm; Sussex County League Cup 2nd Round - Crowborough v St Francis and Rustington v Shoreham are both at 1pm. Premier Academy League fixtures are as published, all at 11am apart from the following: Stoke (10-00), Watford (10-30), Arsenal (10-45), Leicester, Newcastle, Norwich and Wolves(all 12-00). Part Two of the Directory is now at the printers and should be available in the not too distant future.......subject to the post!
12/10/07 10:24 Bob Odell - Despite the comments of Andy Langford (02.04.07) as to the standard of soccer in the Republic of Ireland I am gradually working my way through the grounds. Unfortunately, however, his thinking is undoubtedly correct. Last weekend saw me at Cork City V. Shamrock (1-0), Cobh Ramblers V. Kildare (1-0) and Wexford Youths V. Waterford U21 (3-1). If Cork and Shamrock really are two of the four best teams in the League, then what can I expect from the others? Despite the lengthy programme notes from their manager about the 'European' way of playing slow, patient soccer retaining possession and playing through midfield, it seemed that Cork's main tactic was to pass the ball BACK to their keeper from up to 60 yards away. He then launched prodigious kicks like Exocet missiles into the Shamrock penalty area. No midfield play here. It is no fluke that Roy O'Donovan is still the leading goalscorer in the Eircom League more than 2 months after his transfer from Cork to Sunderland. Shamrock brought on one of their leading marksmen only 2 minutes from the end! The U21 match at Wexford with free admission, small but enthusiastic crowd and interesting setting offered much better entertainment. The sight and sound of Mick Wallace enchanced the occasion. No doubt I shall continue my search for goals in Ireland next season. Are there any fixtures in Dublin area on Thursday 8 November? Best regards to Ray Groves who I have not seen for some time.
12/10/07 09:28 Leo Hoenig - I've provided Steve with most of the details of the 1992 Good Friday hop (see below for what is still required)
11/10/07 15:42 Chris Dickinson - RE: Tickets for Anderlecht - For tickets to all games in the Belgian top division you will just need your passport. As far as I know the fancard scheme has been scrapped. I'd advise getting to the stadium early then visiting the fine selection of bars accross the road.
11/10/07 14:38 Steve Shirley - I'm trying to get my Hop details up to date as my records (especially the older ones) are incomplete, illegible or smudged through damp

Starting with the Northern League Hops could anyone supply me with the following missing information please?

1992 Hop - lineups, managers’ names, scores and times, scorers, substitutes and times, officials names (referee and linesmen), attendances and the lengths of each half for all the Good Friday games

1993 Hop - Newcastle BS v Murton - W Davison (NBS) 1st name, length 1st ½

1994 Hop Ferryhill v Guisborough - 1st Name of Ferryhill Manager. Guisborough manager’s name. Match officials ; Horden v Whickham - Horden Manager’s 1st name; Shildon v Durham - Name of Shildon Manager

1995 Hop Prudhoe v Peterlee - Both teams 1st names. Officials 1st names

1996 Hop Stanley v South Bank - All details required as I missed this one (lineups, managers’ names, scores and times, scorers, substitutes and times, officials names, attendances and the lengths of each half); Eppleton v Murton - Name of Murton manager
11/10/07 12:59 Peter Abbott - In response to Graham Paine's posting regards Anderlecht, by identity card the club mean Passport. There is no longer a clubcard system in Belgium. I suggest that you telephone the club direct and explain who you are and where you are coming from and they will leave tickets aside (assuming not sold out) for you to pick-up.
11/10/07 09:10 Dave Reed - The Cray Wanderers game scheduled for tonight has been postponed.
10/10/07 20:16 Graham Paine - Anyone know how easy/difficult it is to get tickets for Anderlacht home games? I am interested in their game with Hapoel Tel Aviv on October 25th but their website says that you need an identity card to get tickets and they have not replied to my e mail.
10/10/07 09:41 Neil Morris - We went to Egypt last week and I hoped to see two games but Zamalek on Tuesday was behind closed doors due to crowd problems and Arab Contractors on Saturday was moved til Sunday, after our flight home! But I did pick up that Al Ahly are building a 150,000 capacity ground in Cairo!
9/10/07 19:35 Rob Hornby - This Thursday 11th October 2007 - Radford Under 16 XI v Football Far North Coast XI (a member zone of Northern New South Wales, Australia) KO 7pm No Admission - Programme to be produced - Refreshments Available - Radford FC, Selhurst Street off Radford Road, Nottingham, NG7 5EH
9/10/07 14:40 Roderick Grubb - With regard to B.N.J.S. Mann and Co the official title of their ground in the Combination Handbook is Warley Rugby Club, Tat Bank Road, Oldbury. So do the Rugby Club play on the old Allbright and Wilson pitch or are there seperate pitches for the two codes?
9/10/07 13:31 Graham Bunn - Called at AZ Alkmaar’s ground on Sunday (7th October), a couple of hours before the game with Gronigen. Went to the Information desk and was told we could not purchase a ticket, despite the game not being a sell-out, unless we had a club card. We were also told that this is a requirement of the Dutch FA and it takes about two weeks for one to be sent in the post. Also note that it is quite a walk from the station/town centre, and no buses were operating on the route we walked.
8/10/07 14:31 Roderick Grubb - Chance for a Nuneaton Double this coming Saturday! Nuneaton Borough play Stamford in the F.A. Cup at their new ground at Liberty Way kick-off 1pm and a mile away on the same road Nuneaton Griff are at home against Continental Star in a Midland Combination Premier Division fixture at the Pingles Stadium kick-off 3pm.
8/10/07 09:29 Rob Davidson - The Pitch 2 at Rushden has been there since the ground transformation and there is also another outside pitch.
7/10/07 21:20 Mark Wyver - Cray Wanderers are playing Corinthian Casuals at Hayes Lane on Thursday Oct 11th in the Ryman Division One South
5/10/07 20:39 Craig Dabbs - In response to David Denton's question Regarding Birmingham National Junior Sides Mann & Co, playing on the same site as Albright & Wilson in their WMRL day's it is indeed, and whilst on the subject of them, although they currently don't do a proggy, when speaking to them recently at Chelmsley Town, it is something they are seriously considering.
5/10/07 15:25 Graham Paine - Re BJNS Mann - This is indeed the same ground used by Albright and Wilson in bygone days.
5/10/07 15:07 George and Maureen Osborne - Sincere thanks to Dave and Darren, for their help. The web site is superb and gives us all we need.Just out of interest to anyone planning a trip to AZ,we contacted them by phone and we were told that a"all"the home tickets go to season ticket holders, availability to casual visitors depends on the number of away fans.It appears all games are ticket only. This makes the info' provided all the more useful.
5/10/07 09:05 David Denton - Do any of our Midlands based brethren know whether Mid Comb team BJNS Mann &Co listed as playing in Tat Bank Road, Oldbury are based on the same ground as that used by Albright & Wilson in their WMRL days
4/10/07 15:44 Stan Armett - Re: Lydney Town. Due to delays in upgrading their ground to meet Hellenic League Premier Division criteria, all Lydney Town's home games during October will be played at Cinderford Town's Causeway ground.
3/10/07 17:30 Darren Liney - When i attended AZ Alkmaar i bought a ticket the morning of the game and had to show my passport and was issued with clubcard from Alkmaar.Dont know if this system has changed or not.
3/10/07 11:52 Richard King - Go to www.voetbalnederland.nl on the home page click on 'W1' on the left hand tool bar and 'beker' on the top bar. This should bring up a menu on the left hand bar. Click on 'KO Ronde1' for all the cup fixtures in that region for the weekend 20th and 21st. As for AZ, I've found it hit and miss for the Dutch top division and the fancard. If you can go to the clubshop on Friday or Saturday to get your ticket, it will be less of a problem - but for a game against Heerenveen, you'll probably have no difficulty anyway if you turn up on the day.
3/10/07 11:19 Dave Norris - AFC Wimbledon v Horsham in the FA Cup on Sat 13th Oct has been confirmed as a 1pm kick off
3/10/07 09:04 Bob Lilliman - Re: TNS/Oswestry - The pitch is in the same place. There is a huge social facility and a large canvas stand for 500.
3/10/07 00:57 Dave Woodings - In response to the Osbornes the best site for viewing Dutch Amateur football is www.voetbalnederland.nl If you click on Beker at the top it automatically throws you into the main Dutch Cup (Landelijk). However if you then look at the top of the left hand section with Ronde numbers etc. there are some small letters to click (L, N ,O etc.) These represent the various Regions e. g. N for Noord and a quick look at a couple of them does indeed show KO Ronde 1 for the 20th and 21st October in Noord and KO Ronde 2 in O (Oost) for instance. Once you have settled on a match on the same site you can also find full details of clubs simply by clicking on the orange letters at the top (A to Z) then choosing the relevant club. As for AZ I fear you will have great difficulty as they not only have a Clubcard system but also usually sell out. This has already been the subject of an earlier question as to how to get tickets and unless I have not been paying attention no-one has yet come up with a solution !
2/10/07 21:47 Chris Bedford - Don't know if this is a newly-built ground (or more likely I didn't spot it on my visit last season) but there is 'Pitch 2' at Rushden & Diamonds' Nene Park. It is an enclosed railed-off grass pitch with floodlights, dugouts and a number of small covered stands, including at least one with seats. The venue is used for youth, reserves and other matches. See top of this ground photo (http://www.thediamondsfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NenePark/)
