| 29/11/04 13:14 Dennis Woods - At the Irish FA's (Northern Ireland)
EGM on Wednesday night, Irish FA officials voted in favour of ending the Irish FA's ban on
Sunday football. The Irish FA was the only national association within UEFA to have a
Sunday ban in place. |
| 29/11/04 12:30 Roderick Grubb - Warstones Wanderers, who play in the
West Midlands League Division One, will be producing a Matchday Programme for the
first time in their history, starting on 8th December 2007 for their home game with
Wednesbury Town. Wanderers, formed in 2001 as a senior club, now play their home games at
Long Lane Park in Essington, the former home ground of the now defunct Wyrley Rangers. The
first-ever edition of the Warstones Wanderers programme will obviously be an historic
event for the club and will be a special edition. Any collectors, club shops or ground
hoppers who would like to buy a copy of this first programme can do so by sending a cheque
for £2.00 to the editor, Clive Dunkley at 47 Kings Meadow, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, CV10
8QZ. The £2.00 covers the cost of the programme, postage and a hard backed envelope to
ensure you receive your programme in mint condition. Cheques/Postal Orders payable to
Warstones Wanderers. For additional copies please add £1.00 per programme. Please help
Warstones Wanderers with this new venture. Any clubs, shops etc that wish to purchase more
than one copy please email the editor at warstoneswanderers@hotmail.co.uk for a special
price. |
| 28/11/07 23:19 Steve Shirley - As you know, I'm trying to compile a
complete record of all the hop games on my website www.beerandfootball.net. I really would
appreciate some information from somewhere as it's really frustrating having so many gaps,
especially in the more important areas of scores, scorers, lineups, cautions and
attendances. PLEASE help me someone....sob! |
| 26/11/07 13:11 Dave Woodings - In response to Ken Allison and to help
any others who may have difficulty finding secretaries the FA's "Find a Club"
database usually has details, often including mobile phone numbers, and whilst this is not
always kept up to date in some areas it is at least worth a try if it shows a
"different" name. In the case of Markyate a Mr Dephley is given as the
secretary. Find a Club can be accessed via most County FA* websites (I use Derbyshire - of
course) - just click on "Get Into Football" at the top then "Find a
Club" on the left hand side. * Access via any County site gives access to the listing
for the whole of England. |

| 23/11/07 10:15 Ken Allison - re Markyate (South Midands League).
Apparently Mr Fleming is no longer secretary (unfortunately I was unable to establish who
now is!). I thought it would be useful to ask other travellers who experience similar
changes to notify via the noticeboard! This would save people from wasting money making
futile calls, and avoid bothering ex club officials! |
| 23/11/07 10:14 Mike Latham - sorry you had a wasted journey to
Bewdley but it is a ground well worth doing. Heres the link to a Travellers Tales I
did on footballgroundsinfocus last season if its of any help:
http://footballgroundsinfocus.com/TT67178.htm |
| 22/11/07 17:45 Chris Bedford - Fortunately I didn't have to travel
far last night for what turned out to be a wasted journey. All I got to 'tick' was the
Kidderminster branch of Sainsbury's! I'd arranged to visit a friend yesterday tea time who
lives a couple of miles from Goodrich FC prior to watching their game with Lye Town. But
this week's TFT suggested the game would in fact be played tonight instead. So, not to
worry, I carried on down the A449 to watch the Bewdley v Wellington game. I got to where I
think Bewdley Town FC is and found the area in darkness with a locked gate next to a
'Welcome to BTFC, etc.' sign. I assume they play at the Ribbesford ground to the south of
the town, down and beyond the High Street. Am I correct or are they sharing elsewhere? I
may try Goodrich v Lye this evening to finally tick my nearest unvisited floodlight
ground! Please could someone answer my question on Bewdley for future reference. |
| 21/11/07 14:51 Graeme Holmes - I have seen some of the recent
listings on tickets for Dutch matches I was looking at AZ on a Tuesday night in
January and either Herenveen, De Graffshap or Groningen for the Wednesday flying in/out of
Amsterdam. Can anyone advise on ticket/travel options please, as to which may be the best
option for the Wednesday |
| 19/11/07 08:42 Peter Ford - Went to Parkhouse on Saturday - a very
friendly club who have had a rapid rise. They are hoping to install floodlights - although
they are overlooking a housing estate (apparently where Dennis Skinner was born). They
have a new visitor's book which they are asking all hoppers to sign - my signature is now
4th on the list. In addition, the game itself was an excellent 5-5 draw, with both sides
intent on attacking at every opportunity. Thoroughly recommended |
| 16/11/07 19:15 David Dixon - North West Counties Cup matches
featuring East Villa and Roma scheduled for tomorrow (Sat) are off due to the Liverpool
County League's representative game. They are likely to be staged on 24 November. East
Villa have returned to their former ground at Long Lane according to the Secretary. |
| 16/11/07 15:15 Graeme Holmes - Does anybody know if Bromyard Reserves
or Phoenix Sports & Social Reserves have a home game on 17/11 please |
| 16/11/07 13:34 Brian Buck - The Herts Senior County League match
between Buckhurst Hill v Debden Sports on Wednesday 21st November will take place at
Stansted KO 7.45pm |
| 15/11/07 16:12 Dave Norris - The Brentford v Luton FA Cup tie
scheduled for Tues 20th Nov has been moved to Tues 27th Nov due to International call ups
for Luton. |
| 15/11/07 12:56 Steve Shirley - I'm still trying to get my Hop details
up to date but there are lots of little gaps still to be filled in. I have placed all the
details I have on my Website, www.beerandfootball.net, and have highlighted the gaps in
green. I would be very grateful if anyone can have a glance through and supply me with any
further information and perhaps place some comments in the Visitor's Book (good, bad or
indifferent). My e-mail address for direct contact is steve.shirley@tiscali.co.uk. Any
contributions will be acknowledged on the Website. Thanks. |
| 15/11/07 12:26 Paul Roach - Liverpool Senior Cup Second Round Tuesday
27th November 2007 7-30 p.m. East Villa v Warrington Town (to be played @ Poulton Victoria
FC) East Villa have confirmed that a programme will be issued for this game |
| 15/11/07 08:46 Peter Ford - According to Brentwood's website, their
home game next Tuesday (v AFC Sudbury) has been put back to 27th November - and they are
instead playing an Essex Senior Cup tie at Dagenham & Redbridge on the 20th. Messes up
my plans! |
| 14/11/07 12:29 Chris Bedford - Bustleholme's home game tonight
(Wednesday) is a Floodlight Cup game against AFC Wulfs and not the home league game listed
in last week's Traveller. |
| 14/11/07 08:10 Peter Ford - Went there last night - East Grinstead
maintained their 100% league record with a narrow and undeserved 1-0 win. I was told that
Broadbridge Heath are hoping to move to a new ground in the foreseeable future (whatever
that means) nearer to Broadbridge Heath itself. Any new ground must surely have more
atmosphere than their current one. |
| 13/11/07 15:03 Mark McIntyre - Saturday 17th November 3.00 - Dudley
Town v Darlaston Town - this fixture has been reversed and the game will now be played at
Darlaston's City Ground. |
| 12/11/07 16:27 Chris Bedford - Picked up in Saturday's Thackley
programme. Bradford & District Senior Cup. First Round: West Horton v South Bradford.
Second Round: 1. Old Headingley v Dynamo All Stars, 2. Thackley Res v U Save Albion (17/11
1-45), 3. Dudley Hill Rangers v Old Headingley Res, 4. West Horton or South Bradford v St
Bedes Res. Quarter Finals: Winner 1 v Winner 2, Winner 3 v Winner 4, Eccleshill United v
Bradford PA, Wibsey First Team v Fields (17/11 1-45pm). |
| 10/11/07 17:38 Rob North - Whitehill Welfare are issuing a programme
for their Scottish FA Youth Cup tie v Ross County on Sunday 11th November (k.o. 1.30).
Also, news regarding Spartans FCs new ground at Ainslie Park. Work has commencing
and the buildings are expected to be ready by August 2008. However there is some doubt as
to whether the pitch will be ready for next season since it was not sown in time for the
2007 growing season. I am told the club will continue at City Park until the next pitch is
ready. |

5/11/05 20:23 Chris Freer - Just back from a second (annual)
three-day trip to Holland to take in Friday, Saturday & Sunday fixtures, as per my
previous posts (18/10/07 and 13/11/06).
Friday's match was in Tilburg, the Willem II stadium being a good walk from the railway
station. We had arranged tickets from the club by e-mail, which were duly waiting for us
in the ticketing 'pre-fab' in the car park at the front of the station - at 13 euro's each
(less than £10) not a bad price for top level Dutch football. The stadium is modern and
tidy and once inside your section of the ground you more or less sit where you want. There
is a good glossy programme - free as is the norm in Holland - and spectators are treated
to occasional blasts from heaters situated in the roof (they have these at NAC and Roda
too).
On Saturday night we travelled to Rotterdam to see Excelsior v Sparta, a local derby.
Excelsior's ground is the smallest in the Eredivisie and we didn't think we'd have a cats
chance of tickets for this one, especially as the club failed to respond to my e-mails.
Fortunately one of the guys running an Excelsior fan-site offered to get tickets for me,
which he duly did (again, 13 euros each). To get to the stadium, take a 21 tram from
outside Rotterdam Centraal. Remember that trams go in two different directions, so check
the board at the tram stop for the words Oostplein or Woudstein, or you could end up at
the opposite end of the city! You can break your journey at Oostplein, and visit the Locus
Publicus bar just opposite the tram stop - it's one of Holland's top speciality beer bars.
The ground is a mile further along the line at Woudstein. The ground reminds me of Chester
City's Deva Stadium, and for this match at least, boasted some atmosphere, especially with
the home side scoring twice in the last 3 minutes to win 4-3! You won't find a programme
here, but if you go into the club bar there's a team-sheet available on headed paper.
On Sunday we went to Ajax having been required to buy a "Soccer World' package to get
tickets. Although (very) pricey at around 85 euros per person, you do at least a good meal
thrown in, plus the use of a reserved table to drink up until kick-off time. The Amsterdam
ArenA can be reached from Amsterdam Centraal by train or metro - alight at Bijlmer. There
is a nice A4 glossy programme (given away free) and seats in the clouds. We were luckier
than previous postees George & Maureen Osbourne in that we saw a highly entertaining
game with no little skill, won 4-2 by the hosts. We congratulated ourselves on seeing 16
goals in the three games and although the standard of football generally doesn't match
that of the Premiership, it's a great excuse for a weekend away! |
| 2/11/07 15:57 Brian Buck - With regard to Tadleys new ground. They
have actually bought Stevenage Boroughs old floodlights and Stevenage were due to play a
pre-season friendly to celebrate this and the opening of the new ground, but it never
happened! |

| 1/11/07 Dave Reed - Further to previous postings on Tadley, I went
there last Saturday and confirm that they are issuing a temporary program.
(their spelling). This consisted of a single folded sheet with the home squad on the back,
no opposition details (not supplied to the editor) and some club information on the
visitors obtained from the Wikipedia website. The pitch is three sided although it is
possible to walk behind the goal at the far end and there is no cover or any signs of
floodlights being installed. On the positive side, the football was excellent, Tadley look
a good side but there is much work to do on the ground before promotion here can be
considered |
