Ordnance Survey moved into the old AC Delco ground, and are now known as Stoneham. It now
appears they may be on a different ground altogether, immediately south of the Delco one.
Anyone know more? Meanwhile, but still in the same road - Sporting BTC Stoneham play at
the University grounds at Hardmoor. This is just north of the motorway bridge down a small
drive - apart a half a mile from the ground that BTC used in the Hampshire League, and
still use in the Southampton League |

Although our esteemed editor has placed my article under the Anglian Combination heading,
I would just like to point out that the club focus is on Lakenheath of the Cambridgeshire
League not Brandon United which had been my original destination. |

After a visit to Retford United on Saturday, I thought I should warn anyone going by train
to attend a match that ends in daylight, as the Leverton Road ground is surprisingly rural
and the last 6-7 minutes walk are without pavements or street lighting, with non-football
traffic driving very fast!
I noticed from Sunday's Non-League Paper that Colliers Wood United's home game on Saturday
was apparently played at a ground called 'Lincoln Green'. Was this an error (although it
doesn't lokk like a misprint) or is there more to it?
Also... 1) Have Hanworth Villa installed floodlights? The FA 'Full-time' site gives the ko
for their home game tomorrow as 7.45pm at Rectory Meadow, but the official CCL site gives
it as 6.30pm. 2) Have Chobham and Ottershaw shortened their name to just plain 'Chobham'? |

Finding the M2 closed on Saturday which prevented a visit to Herne Bay for their FA Cup
game with Erith & Belvedere, I diverted to Gillingham to watch Hollands & Blair
play their first home game in the Kent County League Premier Division against last
season's champions Lewisham Borough. A 20 page programme was issued (probably their first
ever?)included in the £2 admission. The club also have a website (www.hollandsandblair.
co. uk). |

Confirmantion that a teamsheet will be issued for the Wodson Park game. The home
club have supplied the information and the sports centre have supplied a heading for the
sheet. I will hand the teamsheets over to the home club on the night and I have suggested
that they sell them and keep the proceeds for club funds. By the way, it is a 7.30pm kick
off as they have floodlights on the Sports Centre pitch which is adjaccent to Ware FC. |

Further to Tony Incenzo's entry of 16 August, I have e-mailed the secretary of
Wodson Park FC as requested, and she has replied saying that they are not in a position to
issue programmes at the present time. She also says that she believes that it is Tony who
will be doing a programme. I hope this clarifies matters for everyone. |

The Essex & Suffolk Border League Cup Final at Lawford Lads scheduled for
tonight (Thurs 17 Aug) is OFF. The original game at the end of last season was ordered to
be replayed after Gas Recreation fielded an inelegible player. Lawford Lads have now said
that they will NOT currently fulfill the fixture, hence the league have been forced to
cancel the game indefinitely. |

For John Keogh re Wyre Villa: Wyre Villa play in Stalmine, a pleasant village in
the Over Wyre district of the Fylde Coast. The ground is at the Northern edge of the
village on the A588, between Hambleton and Preesall/Knott End on Sea. They have been
perennial non issuers for as long as I can remember sadly, which is a shame as they have a
very good ground for this level. It's fully enclosed and railed, with dug outs and cover
for approx 100-150 people. With a clubhouse/dressing room block elevated behind the near
goal. There is a large car park on site too. I sincerely hope they'd change their view on
issuing, but it doesn't seem likely. If a programme isn't essential, it's a ground well
worth visiting. |

In answer to Peter Ford's query both Blackrod Town and Tempest United are at home in the
West Lancashire League. Barring an unexpectedly late finish both should be within reach
for a 5.15pm kick-off, but I would guess Blackrod is slightly the nearer. Incidentally,
Lancashire Amateur League newcomers Horwich Victoria are based on the Bolton Arena pitch
just across the road from the Reebok Stadium, but they are away this Saturday. |
 |
16/8/06 Mike Latham
Further to Peter Ford's query re Reebok this Sat, I see from today's Traveller that
Blackrod and Tempest United are both at home in the WLL. These might be easier options for
a 5-15ko at the Reebok than Chorley or Daisy Hill. Both are only about 2 or 3 miles away
from the Reebok. Blackrod is reached off the A6 coming from the Reebok M61 roundabout with
the ground at the far end of the village. Tempest's ground is situated just off the A6 at
Westhoughton following signs for Lostock. Slightly further away Stoneclough are also at
home- their ground is on the Whitefield road out of Kearsley but the other side of Bolton
to the Reebok.
In reply to Peter Ford's query re the 5-15 ko at the Reebok on Sat, the best 3pm choices
prior to seeing the Traveller are Chorley v Stocksbridge (Unibond One) and Daisy Hill v
Winterton (FA Cup). From Chorley go along the A6 and then take the road through Adlington
into Horwich, bearing right at the Crown (excellent Holts pub). There should be roadside
parking past the site of the lamented Horwich RMI ground and then it's a 10-min walk to
the Reebok through the retail park (follow the crowds) cutting through the old Stott and
Smith textile works. From Daisy Hill the traffic through Westhoughton and along the A6
might be more of a problem though you can turn right by the India Gate on the A6 and park
on the old British Aerospace car park (£3 last season) and cut through by Tesco to the
ground. |

On Friday I visited Ringkøbing IF who this seaason have moved from their home of
recent years, the Kongevejen Stadion, to the Alkjær complex where their
clubhouse/headquarters is situated. However they do not play at the fully enclosed ground
(near to the clubhouse)with terracing/banking on all four sides as this is completely
overgrown with apparently longstanding vegetation. Instead they used Bane(pitch)2 situated
beyond the enclosed ground. This facility, which was grandly described as the Alkjær
Alternativ Arena on posters advertising the match, has only flat grass standing and the
pitch is not even roped - instead a dotted white line is painted about 2 yards from the
touchlines. Being Denmark, spectators respected this 'barrier' and stood behind it
throughout the match - somehow I don't see this concept being a success in England! To
compensate for the lack of spectator facilities someone stood at the entrance hiring
plastic garden chairs out at 10Kr at time, presumably an official initiative rather then
the local 'Del Boy' making a quick profit. Confusingly, the maps displayed at the station
and in town show an 'Alkjær Stadion' on the opposite side of the clubhouse but this area
consists only of unenclosed training/junior pitches. Any info on when the enclosed ground
was last used welcome. |

I attended Lifton's first fixture in the newly extended & renamed East
Cornwall League on Saturday 12 August. Visitors Tamarside also made their debut in this
league and won fairly comfortably 3-1 in front of an attendance of 33. Lifton FC is based
at The Recreation Field, Leat Road - scarcely more than a lane, in fact - and, if
approaching from the A30, the ground is reached by taking a right turn roughly opposite
the post office in the village centre. The entrance is just the other side of a
picturesque bridge and is very pleasantly scenic with large surrounding trees and a river
running along the far side. Just inside the entrance there is good car-parking space which
extends behind the near goal. The pitch, which is flat and in good condition, runs
lengthways and was roped. On the near side there is a brick "pavilion" with a
wooden approach walkway. Inside are the dressing-rooms and a refreshments room linked to a
small kitchen. Hot & cold drinks were served here as well as burgers and
confectionary. The only cover is minimal, being a small roof projection in the middle of
the building. The spreading branches of the previously mentioned trees provide several
natural canopies in the event of rain.! There are a couple of park style benches but no
other seating. As far as I'm aware, the club has never issued programmes. However, Lifton
does have its own website at liftonfc.co.uk so maybe if the club gets an interesting cup
draw someone will take the next step! Everyone seems very enthused by this switch from the
Devon & Exeter League and it was unfortunate perhaps that the opening game was against
the strong Plymouth-based Tamarside who are many people's pre-season favourites for
promotion. If anyone would like ground photos, please email me at
trevor.pike2@btopenworld.com |

Re Andy Sneddon's West Lancs suggestions - Charnock Richard have now moved across the road
to a new ground. At present it has no permanent facilities at all, and the old changing
rooms are still used. They still issue a regular programme. |
 |
15/8/06 Andy Sneddon
To add to Paul Roach's list of grounds in the WL with cover: Mill Hill St Peters,
Furness Rovers & Crooklands Casuals also have cover. There are others without cover
that are also worth a look, either because of the overall appearance of the ground or it's
setting; my personal favourites that fall into this category would include Turton,
Charnock Richard & Askam United. There are plenty of decent grounds and it's all
subjective, but the one I would suggest as the most impressive in many respects is
Barnoldswick, which is well worth a visit. |

AFC Portchester game on Wednesday 16 August is off. Problems with the pitch |
 |
15/8/06 Leo Hoenig
Paddy - drop me a note if you need more help (leo@leohoenig.com). The Saturday
and Sunday hoofdklasse are officially equal, but unofficially, the Saturday is stronger.
The last 4 overall champions have been Saturday teams. The last Sunday team to win the
title, AGOVV are now a professional team. Programmes for Saturday Hoofdklasse are almost
universal. I think most Sunday teams issue as well. I think the adresses for amateur and
professional Volendam club are the same road - they are almost certainly two aspects of
the same club. Quite a few Netherlands professional clubs have amateur grounds just
outside - but they normally have different names! Tell me afterwards what the set up is! |
 |
15/8/06 Chris Ashbridge
In answer to Paddy Mooney's query, there is no difference in status between Dutch
Sat and Sunday football, both are exactly equal. The reason why they paly on different
days is to do with religious and cultural traditions. As for programmes, there is a very
good chanc ethat you will get progs at most, if not all, these clubs as they are based in
the north. There are a few Dutch amateur clubs who do not issue, but they tend to be
mostly the ones near the Belgian frontier. As for allowing 30 mins to catch the last ferry
back - well, I wouldn't take that risk unless there is an alternative route! |

Can anyone tell me the nearest ground to the Reebok in Bolton which is staging a home game
this Saturday afternoon - and is it close enough to get to the Reebok for a 5.15 kick
off.? |
 |
15/8/06 David Denton
There is no difference in status between the Saturday and Sunday amateur leagues
in Holland. Many of the Saturday teams come from villages with a strong Protestant (ie
Gereformed Kerk) presence such as Marken, Spakenburg and Oude Beijerland and as such do
not approve of Sunday football. When I lived in Holland all play-off matches between clubs
in the two leagues took place on a Saturday so as not to offend the religious communities |
 |
14/8/06 Dave Woodings
In answer to Paddy Mooney there is no difference whatever in status between the Zaterdag
and Zondag Hoofdklasses in Dutch Amateurs. I understand the choice of day played is
primarily on religious grounds and the Zaterdag teams never play on Zondags. At the end of
the season there are mini tournaments between the three Hoofdklasse winners for each day,
and then the two champions meet in a two legged Final, last season won by Zaterdag
champions Ijsselmeervogels 4-2 on aggregate over Zondag champions Turkiyemspor. I have
never failed to get a programme yet at Hoofdklasse and even a couple of Div 1 games. All
clubs also seem to have a social club. There is an excellent club directory on
www.voetbalnederland.nl which contains precise addresses and should enable you to check
exact location of Den Helder and indeed all grounds. |
 |
14/8/06 Colin Peel
Further West Lancs grounds with cover are Crooklands (nr Dalton) and Mill Hill SP
in Blackburn. Burnley Utd has 700 seats but no cover. Picturesque grounds include Eagley,
Turton, Stoneclough and (in particular) Bootle. |

Looking at the message board on the Humber Premier League website it would appear
both Driffied and AFC Charleston have folded. In addition Handsworth United have resigned
from Mid Comb. In Peterborough & District Hotpoint are now Fletton at same ground but
Woodlands are promoted and remaned Hampton hargate playing at Hampton College. Ortonians
have folded and the two Wimblington teams have merged so no relagation. New teams see the
return of Hereward at Estover Road, Sawtry at Greenfields and also Benwick who play in
Doddongton with an address of Playing Fields whereas Doddington United play at the rec. |
 |
14/8/06 Paul Roach
Norcross & Warbreck used to issue regularly. Play at Anchorsholme Lane, but
it is the closed (dead end) bit that was bisected by the bypass, not the part heading in
the Clevelys direction and listed on street maps. Head for Thornton and turn left. There
is cover. Garstang don't issue but the ground is tidy and has cover. There are plenty of
decent grounds in W Lancs. Those known of with cover include: BAe Barrow, Barnoldswick,
Dalton, Fulwood, Fleetwood H, Hesketh Bank, Wyre Villa, Blackpool Rvrs, Milnthorpe,
Thornton ??, Trimpell. |

Question to those in the know on Dutch Amateur football. What is the difference
(in status) between Saturday and Sunday Hoofdklasse leagues ? I've got a two-week holiday
in Holland coming up and have planned to visit Texel '94, Den Helder,Geel Wit (Ameland)

news - Bottesford Town are hosting Scunthorpe United Juniors home games this season
starting today (Friday 9th August 2pm) whilst Winterton Rangers continue to be the home
venue for Hull City Juniors, again playing today at 2pm. It may well be that when
Bottesford & Winterton have home games, the respective junior sides will continue to
play on Fridays. Winterton have now completed their stadium rebuild with new seated stand,
new covered terrace, new hard standing, new pitch perimeter walls, new dugouts, new
changing rooms, refurbished lounge, refurbished concert room, new toilets, refurbished
bars, full ground enclosure, new turnstiles, new kitchen and sit down canteen all being
completed in two years. The pitch is one of the best in England, never had a game
postponed in wet conditions in its 56 year history, with the groundsman recently being
awarded the best pitch in Lincs. With a couple of minor modifications the ground would now
be Norther! n Premier standard with the club languishing in the bottom division of the
NCEL Barton Town - I looked in yesterday and the new ground still needs a lot of work
before it can be used. The sale of part of the clubs pitch/land and subsequent pitch
rotation has finally happened after years of talk. All signs of the old ground have gone
this summer with the stands etc flattened. The old clubhouse does remain (for how long?)
but is now in the part of the ground fenced off for housing. The pitch is now at 90
degrees to the old one, positioned at the far end of the ground. It is fully fenced and
whereas the new pitch was merely soil a few weeks ago, grass is now coming through. I
estimate the new pitch will incorporate 40/50 per cent of the old one. A new ground for
some of us but not the rest! I understand the CML are allowing Barton to play their
opening games away from home. Obviously a lot of work remains to be done, including
re-erecting the floodlights, but a NCEL standard ground is expected (Barton won the CML
last season but were denied promotion as th! e ground was not NCEL standard). |

Just to keep folk down south updated with the position of Muirkirk in the
Ayrshire Junior League. They began the season 0-9 at Thorniewood in a friendly, 0-10 at
Glenafton in the League Cup and 0-14 at Cumnock in the League Cup. There has already been
press talk of them possibly folding after the League Cup and before the League starts. I
went to their game last night at home to Junior Cup holders Auchinleck and they lost 1-15.
There was a fair crowd there so hopefully the extra cash can help keep them going a bit
longer. |

With regard to Steve Hardy's Draycott query, I have dug out an old CML handbook
dated 1986/87 which gives Draycott FC's ground address as Gertrude Road. In 2003/04
Draycott Olympic played in the Midlands Regional Alliance on this ground and gave the
address as Hopewell Road, although Dovedale quoted Gertrude Road ! From what I remember
there are 2 entrances to this Sports Ground, which is only big enough for one pitch, and
these are in Hopewell Road and Gertrude Road so it is almost certainly one and the same as
Draycott's old CML ground. |

Camelford of the East Cornwall League opened their new Trefrew Park ground last
weekend with a friendly against Truro City's first team (who won 8-0). To get there, it's
at the Northern end of the town. Turn into a new housing development (Oakland Rise I
think), which is almost opposite the road that led to their old ground. Follow this around
to the right and out into the countryside for approx. 1/3 mile, then turn right into an
unpromosing looking track which leads to the new ground. Small homemade signs were put out
on Saturday directing everyone, but this will have probably been a one-off. The ground is
fully railed-off, with the only cover being from an overhang of the changing rooms/tea bar
building, which is at about a 1 meter lower level from the pitch. Hot/cold drinks
(including cans of beer) were available, but no food. A programme was issued, a folded
single sheet inside last season's static 10 page shell. The only proviso is that as it is
quite high up and relatively exposed, it could be rather a bleak experience in the depths
of the winter! |
 |
9/8/06 Mike Simpkins
I visited this ground last year and it is the one marked on the Derby A to Z at
page 25E3/E4 and has an entrance to the recreation ground in Gertrude Road. The far touch
line is adjacent to but above the railway line. As the dressing rooms are new, I would
guess the same ground but possibly a new entrance. |

re Crown & Manor, according to the FA's useful Find a Club website they're now in the

Re Dovedale Long Eaton Present ground has changing rooms next to road, a small childrens
playground to the right and a metal fence with a busy railway to the left if this triggers
your memory. Sorry don't know if Draycott played there. |
 |
8/8/06 Steve Hardy
Here's a good question for the anoraks amongst us. Can anyone confirm that the
ground currently being used by Dovedale Long Eaton in the Midlands Regional Alliance, is
the same one that was used by Draycott during their spell in the Central Midland League?
The address given in my copy of an old Draycott programme is Hopwell Road, Draycott, and
this is the road that runs down the back of the Gertrude Road ground used by Dovedale now.
I know this is sad, but I need to know. |

Durham Alliance. 18 teams this season, with new clubs being Fatfield (playing at
the Northumbria Centre, Washington - a former Wearside League venue), Blackhall (Welfare
Park, their former home during their Wearside League days), Ferryhill Athletic (Mainsforth
Complex, which I think is a cricket venue they've used previously) and Ryton Reserves.
Only Hartlepool The Office have left the league. About two-thirds of all clubs are now
based at grounds previously used in the Wearside League. |

Ruabon Villa have resigned from the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area). Bargate Rovers

for the next two weeks. From Saturday 19th August they will play home games at Park Road
in Belper. |

7/8/06 Stephen Harris
To Paul Hawkins, Re: Beaumont Athletic FC My info is that they will be playing their home
games at the Mile End Stadium, London E3, as currently also used by Sporting Bengal,
possibly still by Crown & Manor (does anybody know the position with that club?), and
previously by Tower Hamlets FC amongst others. The Vallance Road, Bethnal Green address
that you have may relate to the Weavers Fields recreation ground - but this is not
suitable for senior football. |

An addition to the ranks of programme issuers in the West Lancs League are
Thornton Cleveleys, who issued what appeared to be a regular programme on Saturday.
Incidently, Saturday's game was played on the "second pitch", divided from the
main ground by a small stream, partly railed off with some hardstanding, its own cover and
dugouts. |

Not wanting to offend anyone with this message but now that the season is now
underway, please can we clarify the position with this board and the posting of fixtures.
Basically, if the fixture is in the magazine it will not be posted unless it is advising a
change of date, venue or kick-off time, postponment or programme details. Advance fixtures
are usually fine especially if they have an unusual date, venue or kick-off time, or a
rarely-issued programme. Sometimes, fixtures are sent through or requested which are
printed in the current issue of the magazine. Also, sorry for the infrequent updates last
week - I was on holiday and updates could only be made when I was in a built-up area. For
those interested, I saw games at Mid-Annandale (basic prog) and Abbey Vale (no prog) in
the South of Scotland League and will add an account of these during the week. |

Andy Molden & myself are combining to issue a programme for Wednesday's Glos
NSL Cup tie between ASHTON KEYNES and Tetbury Town. Kick Off is at 6.30pm at the Bradstone
Sports Ground in Rixon Gate, Ashton Keynes. More programme news: Definitely issuing in the
West Lancs League this season are Kirkham & Wesham, Fulwood Amateur, Turton, Trimpell
and Euxton Villa. |

Re the Didcot Festival Cup / Didcot Casuals. Casuals will once again be using the
2nd pitch at Didcot Town this coming season, also Didcot Town Res will be using it for
their games in the Festival Cup. By chance the two meet each other in the group stage of
the competition. |

Does anyone have any info re ESL newcomers Beaumont Athletic please? Are they
groundsharing or using their own ground - I have this as Vallance Road, Bethnal Green, E2
but am not sure this is up to date? |
 |
5/8/06 Rob North
Ref Andy Molden's Didcot Festival Cup post - I think that the 'newly formed'
Wallingford Athletic might just be a Baldric style 'cunning plan' to allow the former AFC
Wallingford A into the North Berks League top division. Reserves/A teams aren't allowed in
Divison 1. A bit of a clue is that the club page on the league website links to
'Wallingford Athletic' but is still headed 'AFC Wallingford A'. Still it might keep Dave
Woodings happy! |
 |
4/8/06 Dave Woodings
In response to Scott Struthers it's not a matter of not "counting"
them, I simply will not watch reserve teams at all - I have always believed they should
not be involved in leagues with other clubs' first teams and I know a lot of English
leagues have recently begun to put them in separate divisions. The main problem I see is
that you never know exactly what you are getting because of first team calls,
"naughty boy" demotions of the whole team etc. On occasions reserve teams have
been able to adversely affect leagues by fielding first teams e. g. to avoid relegation or
simply messing up someone else's chances when their first team haven't got a game. I know
first teams can sometimes be decimated by injuries etc. but this is rarely a deliberate
manipulation except at the top levels. My only reason for posting the "Taffs
Well" clarification was that some of those who avoid/dislike reserves may not have
realised that they were involved. My views on reserves are purely personal and I accept
everyone's right to watch whomsoever they like. However I have been pleasantly surprised
how many others I have discovered who share these views or at least avoid reserves unless
it is absolutely necessary.
Also...In answer to Ralph Pomeroy yes virtually all the Saturday teams in the Leinster
senior League are reserve teams. There are a couple of first teams in the very lower
reaches but these clubs can be identified as they don't have a Sunday team at all. |
 |
3/8/06 Scott Struthers
Just to remind folks that you can do 5 games in a day on Saturday, albeit four of them at
the one ground. The Hamilton Accies u19 International Youth Tournament is on, 9 games from
Friday to Sunday. The Sat games are - 10am Blackburn Rovers v Hamilton, 12 noon West Ham v
Hibs, 6pm Cruzeiro v Blackburn, 8pm West Ham v Bayer Leverkusen. (Games all 35 min each
way). You are then free to do any local junior game at 2pm or senior game at 3pm. And to
Dave Woodings re his note a few messages below - how can you not count reserves??!! A game
(at a reasonable level) is a game, a ground is a ground!! Cue a big debate now! |
 |
3/8/06 Christine Morgan
Euxton Villa's secretary advised me that they are not issuing programmes this Saturday,5th
and midweek but hope to start again thereafter. Bob Davey, the Secretary of Kirkham and
Wesham confirmed to me that the ko on Saturday is 3pm and they're issuing a Commemorative
programme for the official opening of the new ground. He has the mayor of Kirkham and the
mayor of Wesham in attendance. |

The Didcot Festival Cup has been revived after a number of years, all details of this
years competition can be found at the following link.
www.nbfl.co.uk/didcot_festival_cup.htm#leagues The teams taking part are all North Berks
sides plus Didcot Town Res. The competition starts on the 8th August. Travellers might be
interested to know newly formed Wallingford Athletic are at home on Saturday 12th August
and Tuesday 15th August - the first stage of the competition is being played on a league
basis. Three groups of four teams. All the rules of the competition is on the above link. |

Question which Dave Woodings may be able to answer..Leinster Senior League whats the
difference betwen the Saturday/Sunday sections? is Sunday the First teams and Saturday the
Reserves?...also has anyone noticed Dublin City have ceased to be although Home Farm still
play in the Leinster League.. |
 |
1/8/06 Mark Herron
Promotion to the Mid Wales League is still undecided. No teams have left the league, but
definite newcomers are Tywyn & Bryncrug and Newbridge, though the latter may be
groundsharing at Rhayader. TNS Reserves were also accepted by the league ... until the
decision was overturned by the FAW, who don't want any more reserve teams at this level.
Not surprisingly, TNS are a bit miffed, as there are already 4 reserve teams in the
league, and are now threatening legal action. |

In answer to Mick Burt's question re the West Lancs I'd suggest Kirkham & Wesham would
be the best bet. They are on their new ground (rear of the Birley Arms, Warton - on the
unclassified road from Warton to Wrea Green - enter THROUGH the pub car park) and have
been issuing for pre season games. The ground is basic at present but is enclosed, railed
and dug-outed, and had a burger van going on Saturday v FC United's Reserves. Their
regular issue is very good indeed, being professionally produced and printed. The Birley
Arms is but a 2-3 minute stroll from the ground itself and is well noted locally for food
and good ale. The ground is very rural in it's outlook and is a good 15-20 minutes walk
from the nearest bus stop in Warton (get off at the Pickwick Tavern).
Of the others at home that day, your best bets (based on previous issuing) would be:
Euxton Villa, Fulwood Amateurs, Hesketh Bank and Trimpell. Virtually all other clubs at
home that day have issued at one time or another, but few are noted regular issuers in
recent times. All of the above grounds are worthy of a visit in their own way. All are
railed except Trimpell (roped), but Trimpell have cover as do Fulwood Amateurs (on 3 sides
no less) and Hesketh Bank. There is no cover (as yet) at K&W's new ground, although
planning permission for two stands and floodlights has already been approved by the local
council. Euxton didn't have cover the last time I went (about 3 years ago) but the ground
is very neat and tidy. Hope that helps. |

Assuming the West Lancs & the Midland Regional Alliance are the only two English
leagues to start their league fixtures this coming Saturday (August 5th), does anybody
know of any likely programme issuers on this date? |

In answer to Paul Crofts there is no automatic promotion and relegation to and
from the Eircom League and indeed there has been very little movement in its constitution
in recent years. Below the Eircom League there are 3 Senior Leagues (with intermediate
status) , based on the Provinces of Leinster, Munster and Ulster (just the three counties
in the Republic). There used to be one in Connacht but this has now disappeared. There are
then numerous Junior Leagues, generally based around Counties, of which the most prominent
include the Athletic Union League (Dublin and around), the Limerick and District and the
Mayo League. As far as I know the only League to have switched to Summer Football in line
with the Eircom League is the Mayo League. The Leinster Senior and Munster Senior have
websites but both are fairly erratic in updating terms : www.lsl.ie and www.mslireland.com
, and indeed the latter is currently out of service. The Athletic Union have an excellent
website at ww.aul.ie . The Mayo League can be found on www.soccerbot.com/mayo/mayo.htm . A
couple of Amateur leagues used to be on www.a2zsoccer.com and the West Cork League is on
Mitoo. Fixtures for the Senior Leagues can generally be found on RTE text
www.rte.ie/aertel - go to page 235 via page 220. In some areas I have found local
newspaper coverage very good but in others football hardly gets a mention because of the
domination of Gaelic Sports. |

Harlow Town will not be moving to the new Barrows Farm Ground until mid September
according to the local paper the Harlow Star. The ground is now ready, but there are still
problems with access due a water main needing to be moved. Harlow's early league and cup
games will therefore be played at the Sportscentre ground. |

The first Wakefield home match at College Grove on Saturday was organised with public
relations at the top of the list. Club officials could not have been more helpful and
spectators were invited into the makeshift boardroom for comlimentary tea, coffee and
biscuits. The chairman said that the club would wait a season to see how they settled in
at the new ground before looking at spending money on any infastructures. The ground is
part of the Wakefield Sporting Club site and was the former ground of the now defunct
Wakefield RFC. The only noticeable change from rugby days has been the removal of the two
storey executive/sponsors boxes. |

21/7/06 Chris Ashbridge
Re; Julian Lillington's note about Peckam Town's new ground, a couple of
questions. Firstly, how come we haven't heard of Peckham Town FC before? Secondly, is this
ground the same as the one that was used by Southwark Sports FC way back in 1984-85? I
never actually saw a game there, but I do vaguely recall reading about it in 'Pyramid'
magazine at the time. More info would be welcome! |

I've been looking for South of Scotland information myself and couldn't find a
site except for http://www.pollokfc.co.uk/directory/southofscot/southofscotland.htm.
Scott told me that on Saturday 29th July, the Premier League will be the only competitive
'professional' fixtures that weekend as the three lower leagues do not play competitively
until 5 Aug. The South of Scotland League does commence on 29 July though, you should get
fixtures there and they are listed in the inside back page of Bill's early season list.
The juniors do not start competitively until either 2nd Aug or 5th Aug depending on area. |

Does anyone know if the South of Scotland League has a website, or from where I
can obtain information about forthcoming fixtures. Also I would be interested to know
which are the feeder leagues to the Eircom League in Ireland, how clubs are
promoted/relegated, and also if these leagues have websites or a source of fixture
information. |
 |
20/7/06 Chris Ashbridge
FAO Chris Berazai - I did point out that Gorseinon is 4 or 5 miles from Swansea
city centre. Anyway, this is (thankfully) irrelevant as the planned rail strike is now off
and it will therefore be possible to get back to Swansea by train, even if the game goes
to extra time. In response to Leon Gladwell, I do not think you will be able to find a
Saturday evening game on 19th August, as German clubs (unlike Holland, Belgium and France)
tend not to play on Sat nights. |

find a Sunday morning game. Alternate - cross the border - but only league clubs in the
Netherlands play on Saturday night. |

In answer to James Wright's query , according to "Find a CLub" (accessed via
most County FA sites - I used Derbyshire - and then clicking on first "Football"
then "Find a Club") Tarporley Vics. play at Tarporley County High School, Eaton
Road. There is a contact number should James wish to verify this. Sadly Wheatley 04 are
listed with the secretary named but then "Address Withheld" and with no groudn
details. So I can only suggest contacting the Oxfordshire FA. The whole concept of
"Find a Club" which purports to cover clubs at all levels throughout England is
great but its efficacy is somewhat diminished when all you get is "Details
withheld" on probably about 30% of the entries ! |

Bad news and good news... firstly apologies that I got my wires crossed re Tudor Sports.
They apparently own both Butterfly Lane and the FKG ground in Lee - both with Welling Utd
connections as the latter was once their training ground. This is to be the club's home
ground. Stansfeld played home there games a couple of years ago. Better news is that New
Bromleianns are due to play their County League games at the old Cray W ground in Sidcup,
in Oxford Rd beside the Tory club. Thius gives another ground with cover in the County
League. I was at the Crocks ground last night and saw some wooden roof joists which the
club intend to use to build an end cover at the village end in time for the new season. |

Further to Bob Lilliman's info about Stradey Partk, please bear in mind that a
national rail strike is due to take place that day. National Express coach services run
from London to Swansea and are priced at £25-£30 return. Frequent local buses run from
Swansea to Llanelli but the last bus from Llanelli to Swansea is at 9.35pm which is
awkward in the case of extra time, although there are later buses to Gorseinon, which is
only 4 or 5 miles from Swansea. |

Dorset Premier League. Gillingham Town's promotion to the Wessex League has been refused
by the Dorset County FA as they did not finish the season in a promotion position.
Sherborne leave the DPL for the Western League, while Portland drop from the Wessex to the

Have just spoken to the Crocks' Chairman and can confirm the Tudor Sports do play at the
old Welling Utd Butterfly Lane ground. Seems the club upset some County League people by
expecting to go straight into the top division from the dizzy heights of the South London
Alliance. It'll be interesting to follow their progress now! |

Update on FC Risden at Harlow Dog Stadium. Their website says today that they
will not now be playing in the Essex Senior League this season as the pitch is to narrow
(60 meters not 65 meters as required). Therefore they will play this season in the
Bishop's Stortford & District League. They hope to widen the pitch and install
floodlights for 2007/2008. To answer Tony's query. As with most of these things it all
depends on your veiw on these things. The pitch now lies east to west, but does cover some
of the same area. However the stadium etc is completly new. FC Risdens web site is
begining to list games coming up at the new venue. |

Beginning on Thursday August 17 I am travelling north to John O'Groats ready to embark on
my cycle ride to Lands End which will take 16 days, in aid of Naomi House Children's
Hospice. Firstly, should anyone wish to sponsor me for this fine cause then please e-mail
this address, but equally importantly, I aim to watch some footy on the way down where I
will be hoping to pick up shirts, footballs, whatever, to auction on e- Bay to add to the
funds. The itinerary shows that I am within striking distance of Inverness/Ross on Tuesday
Aug 22 and Fort William a day later. There doesn't appear to be any Highland League or
Scottish Football League fixtures but it is down as being the week for the CIS League Cup
and try as I might I cannot find the draw. Is it available yet? If not can anyone suggest
any sensible football in the region? I have a support vehicle so when the day's cycling is
done I can travel although I shall be knackered so hours of driving is out! Failing that
my first game will be a juicy derby between Queen of the South and Gretna on the Saturday.
Help required, cheers, Kerry. |

Have just noted that Tudor Sports have been elected to the Kent County League Div

there were post & rails at the ground but these are long gone. |

George should look at http://www.voetbalnederland.nl/ also www.vi.nl is good for
league (and gives kick off times). Amateur games tend to kick off at 2.30 or 3pm. Most
Eerste Division games are played Friday evenings. Eredivisie (Premier) games are mainly
Saturday evening with some Sundays (mixed kick offs). There are no problems getting in to
Eerste Divisie or Amateur games. For the top division, take your passport as a minimum. If
the game looks to be high profile (Ajax, Feyenoord, Utrecht, Den Haag), then contact the
club in advance |

Thanks to Steve for the info on the second new ground in Harlow. I read somewhere
else that this greyhound stadium is the same site that Harlow Town tried to move to at the
Pinnacles - they played some pre season friendlies there about 20 years ago and I went to
one of them. So is it the same pitch? |

Northern Alliance. Newcomers Wetheral Killoran have already resogned! Morpeth
Town A have been accepted in thier place. Glos Northern Senior League. Smiths Athletic
have been forced to leave their ground. It has been on the cards for a while, as the
parent company Smiths Industries sold its sports complex to Cheltenham Rigby Club a couple
of years ago. Smiths will now play at the Dowty Staverton ground previously used by Warden
Hill Utd. |

Another new ground in Harlow. Along with the new Harlow Town FC stadium which is
due to open this month. There is going to be another ground opening up to possible senior
football just a couple of hundred yards away. FC Risdens according to local paper reprots
have taken out a lease at Harlow Stadium (the dog stadium) that almost backs onto Harlows
new ground. According to reprots in the local paper and on FC Risdens website
(www.fcrisdenco.uk), they are hoping to play in the Essex Senior league this season. There
is a pre-season Sunday tournament on the website, that says there will be games at the new
stadium on 16th and 23rd July. I have been to the venue for dog racing and it will lend
itself well to football. There are cover and seats but no lights at present. FC Risden
have approached the Council about moving the old lights at the sportcentre to the dog
track. I will keep you updated. |

Friendlies on Saturday 1st July 2006
Parkhouse FC v Mansfield Town XI - Neil Laughlin
heard on local radio last night so worth double checking, but Parkhouse FC (Midlands
Regional Alliance) are at home to a Mansfield Town XI, with a 1pm kick off at the Coupe
Lane ground in Clay Cross, Chesterfield. This match
is OFF.
Rossington Main v Stalybridge Celtic - KO @ 12 Noon (the earliest kick off I've
seen so far writes Keith Parnill, so will they be claiming the first friendly of the
season award?) (Source : NCEL & Stalybridge Celtic websites) Stalybridge also visit
Woodley Sports on Saturday 8th July.
Harlow Town v Linfield - the Harlow Town website confirms match v Linfield on
Saturday is now at The Sportcentre with a 2pm kickoff to avoid the England game
(http://www.harlowtownfc.moonfruit.com/) and Linfield's site. So far their website has no
news ref the possible venue change back to their old stadium, so any news on Thursday from
the earlier contributor would be gratefully received. Dave Norris reported and Steve
Coulson confirms: "Harlow Town v Linfield has now been confirmed as 2 pm kick off at
the old ground, the Sports Centre. The new ground is not yet ready. Having driven past the
site this morning, I think the access is the main problem as some of the roads and paths
etc are not yet made up."
Woodley Sports v Altrincham - there has been conflicting information
about the kick-off time - either 1pm or 3pm. But Altrincham's official website www.altrinchamfc.co.uk/alty1.htm states
1pm in a new item dated 26th June 'it has now been confirmed that England's progress in
the World Cup has affected next Altrincham's pre-season friendly at Woodley Sports on
Saturday (1st July). Alty's game will now kick off at 1pm. As soon as possible after the
game, the bar back at Moss Lane will be opened for a big screen viewing of England v
Portugal to which all are welcome. The Alty players involved in this first pre-season game
will include those who have already been training plus three or four Reserves who have
graduated from last year's youth team. The game will be played on Woodley's impressive
artificial pitch and all supporters are welcome.'

Scottish Pre-season games - Satutrday 22nd July 2006
In reply Ian Stewart, Scott Struthers writes...There are plenty games for you in
Scotland on 22/7. Home teams that am aware of so far are - Albion R, Alloa, Annan, Ayr,
Beith, Bellshill, Buckie, Dalbeattie Star, Deveronvale, Dundee, Dunfermline, Elgin,
Falkirk, Forfar, Kilmarnock, Morton, Nithsdale Wanderers, Pumpherston, Rangers, Ross
County, Spartans, St. Andrews Utd, Stenhousemuir, Stranraer and Threave Rovers, as well as
tournaments at East kilbride Thistle and Blackburn Utd where you can see 2 games. I have
just finished compiling my annual pre-season list for Scottish teams, junior and senior,
and although there will doubtless be many more to be arranged, I have sent it off to Bill
Berry today for inclusion in the pre-season list he will issue next week. Anyone else
requiring a copy of it is welcome to call me 07860 690795 or e mail me scott.sas@btopenworld.com

Mallorca
In response to Ralph Pomeroy & request for info on Mallorca, Martyn Girdham
writes... You need look no further than the title page on this very website which lists
www.futbolme.com under websites for Spain. The site is excellent and lists matches every
week (including kick off times)via the selection bars on the left hand side. You have a
choice of La Liga (Real Mallorca), Spanish League regional divisions right down to the
Balaeric Islands League & even the Mallorcan League. eg select regionales/balaers or
mallorca Alcudia have just been promoted to the Balearic League (via the play offs,
beating Arta in the final). The ground is situated on the main road in the town, has a
decent sized stand down one side with a stepped terrace & bar, including outside
tables/seats/umbrella's behind one goal. A few miles away are Pollenca (new ground on the
main ring road) and Puerto Pollenca (ground is just off the ring road heading for
Formentor). I saw games at Alcudia & also Arta (play off semi, 10! euros's including
teamsheet)last month. Arta's ground is very scenic, large stand, obligatory inside/outside
bar area, approx 15 to 20 miles from Alcudia. All four grounds had plastic pitches. You
could also consider Real Mallorca B who play a step higher at the old ground in Palma
(approx 15,000 capacity), the first team having moved to a new stadium near the ring
several years ago. Hope this helps. |

Two interesting friendly matches in the Berlin area on 8 July which Gary Spooner may wish
to consider are: SV Falkensee/Finkenkrug vs BFC Dynamo BSV Eintracht Mahlsdorf vs 1 FC

Further to Ian Browns querry about fixtures on 1st July. The local paper for
Harlow says that there is a problem with Acess to the new stadium at Harlow. Therefore the
game with Linfeild may be switched back to the Sports Centre ground. So rather than a
chance to see the first game on a new ground. It may well be a chance to see the last game
again on the old ground. I will update on this when next weeks paper comes out on 29th
June. |

In response to Gary Spooner's enquiry, I do not know of any websites which might list
friendlies (foreign football sites tend to list only competitive matches, with the
exception of individual club sites.) However, Berlin does have a very good weekly football
newspaper (can't remember its title, but it is smaller than tabloid size) which might list
friendlies. Chris, the newspaper is called Fussball Woche and comes out every Monday but
on sale all week. |

clubs in the Supreme Division and 20 in the Premier. Runners-up Dinnington move up to the
Northern Counties League. Relegated from the Supreme are Sandiacre (who finished 12th),
Pinxton (15th) and Bolsover (19th). They are replaced by Askern, Bilborough Pelican and
Bottesford. Leaving the league after only a couple of seasons are LSS Lucarlys and Santos.
Newcomers are Calverton and Louth. |

Programmes aren't issued for all Swedish Division Three games but they get better the
further south you go. I have compiled a list of ground moves/rebuilt grounds in Sweden
& Norway on Tony Kempster's site, under the heading "Non-League Football in other
countries". (it would be too time-consuming for me to type it out again on this
site.) Finally, good news for inter-rail travellers is that seat reservations are no
longer compulsory on 'X2000' trains in Sweden. |

According to the Newmarket Weekly News (16/06/06) Fulbourn Institute have been
forced to pull out of the Ridgeons Eastern Counties League. The decision was made after
plans to build a new ground were rejected by the local Parish Council. It looks likely
that the club will play in the Cambs League next season. First team boss Dave Abbs has
since been appointed new manager at Newmarket Town FC. |

Two early pre-season friendlies for UEFA Cup-bound Llanelli, who a couple of
sources have suggested will look to use Scarlets' Stradey Park for their home leg. As it
is they visit Llanon on Fri 23rd Jun at 6.30pm and Newcastle Emlyn on Weds 28th Jun at
7pm. Not the earliest friendlies of the summer as Carmarthen had played three times by the
time the World Cup started! |

Christine, with Ølstykke you haved picked one of the less easy grounds to find
and it is considerably more than 6 minutes walk from the S-tog station. If you are no good
with maps I suggest you ask for directions when you get there - in my experience nearly
all Danes seem to speak perfect English. |
 |
13/6/06 Christine Morgan
Thanks Chris for all your help. On the DSB site it says it is 6 mins walk from
Copenhagen central station to where you get the S-tog train to travel to Frederikssund. Is
the S-Tog station easy to find? |
 |
13/6/06 Chris Ashbridge
In response to Christine, I visited Olstykke in June 2005 and it is rather a long
walk from Olstykke s-tog station, about 25 mins at least. The ground is not easy to find,
being hidden among trees and accessible mainly by footpaths. Try and find a good map of
Copenhagen on your visit and photocopy it. The ground had no cover for spectators on my
visit (although improvements seemed to be in progress) so you may both want to look for an
alternative game if it is raining. Incidentally I didn't think much of the new
Copenhagen youth hostel, as I could not sleep well due to the amount of light coming
through the windows, I think I will use the older youth hostel (further south) next time,
particularly as all the rooms are at ground level and therefore easier to escape from if
there's a fire. |
 |
13/6/06 Peter Abbott
Fulbourn Institute Football Club have had plans for their proposed new ground
turned down and may now be forced to leave the Eastern Counties League. Manager and some
players have reportedly now left the club. Cambridge United's newly-formed youth team are
set to play in the Eastern Counties League next season under the provisional name of AFC
Cambridge. |

13/6/06 Chris Bedford
Christine, you'll need an S-tog H train going to Frederikssund. I found the
website www.stadions.dk/ useful for ground
directions and maps. Try these links:
club page: www.stadions.dk/olstykke.asp
map: www.stadions.dk/kort/olstykkes.jpg
Alternatively, search for Ølstykke (Denmark) on www.multimap.com
and the ground is to the west of the village/town centre. |
 |
12/6/06 Christine Morgan
I'm off to Copenhagen this weekend for the first time. Can anyone help me with
some info about the S-tog train to Olstykke? It says on the DSB website that you get the
S-tog train but it's 6 minutes walk. I'm useless with maps and the one they show isn't
very clear. Can anyone help? Is it easy to find or will I get hopelessly lost? |

Following up my post in May, I can report that I attended two games whilst in
Italy, including one at Sorrento (thanks John Delaney!). On Sunday 28th, I visited Terni
by train from Naples, changing at Roma Termini, for the final Serie B match between
Ternana and Avellino. Already relegated, Ternana's home support was poor and outnumbered
by the visiting fans giving an attendance of just 855. Avellino won 2-0 and both an
official and unofficial programme was available, each excellent A4 magazine style efforts
with colour throughout. The Stadio Liberati is around a twenty minute walk from the
station and offers up splendid views of the surrounding Umbria hills. A vast 20,00
capacity bowl built in 1964, unusually it has three very shallow tiers of seating, the top
section uncovered and giving those afforementioned excellent views as well as excellent
sunbathing opportunities. The following Sunday, I took a local train out from Napoli to
Sorrento for their return 'Poule Scudetto' semi-final versus Fortis Spoleti
(coincidentally from the same region as Ternana). Following a splendid season in which
Sorrento have captured the Serie D title for their region plus the cup, the Poule Scudetto
offered them the chance to add the 'badge' for the overall title of Serie D to their
collection. However, in front of an estimated 1,200 passionate supporters, the could only
manage a 0-0 draw and thus went down 3-2 on aggregate. A nice A3 size colour programme was
given away free at the Stadio Comunale Italia which again gives splendid views across the
Gulf of Naples from high up on the Tribune Centrale from where we stood. |
