Mick: Further to Dave Norris' message about Wexford Youths, their secretary is Mick Wallace and his mobile number is 00353 87245 4510. He was very friendly and helpful and should be able to sort out any questions you have.

Re : Chris Ashbridge's query about Exeter City's possible move to Sandy Park. I haven't seen anything in the local press about this and given the club's ground development with expansion beyond the previous boundaries, it may no longer be high on anyone's agenda. Of course, the proposal could re-emerge and if I hear anything more I'll post information about it. Incidentally, anyone contemplating travelling for that Falklands Match on May 23rd should be aware that car-parking at the ground is apparently not that great. Someone I know who attends the rugby games there has been obliged to leave his car at the Honiton Road Park & Ride (which is free) and then there's a 15/20 minute walk. Parking at Exeter Services would be quite a bit closer to Sandy Park, but it can be expensive if leaving a car for more than two hours.

Travellers who failed to visit The Dell Stadium in Bryce Road, Brierley Hill may be interested to know that it appears likely Dudley Town will be playing there next season. Newspaper quotes from officials of the club and the local council indicate that the proposal is being viewed very positively. Indeed, council officials have stated that should the club win promotion they would be prepared to support a bid for funding to support any developments which may be needed at The Dell.

Hampshire Premier League 2007-08 - Some apparently well-informed speculation in a recent Southampton Daily Echo 'Pink' may be of interest, as it suggests the potential make-up of this new league should the Wessex League succeed in its plan to reduce to two divisions. Definitely lined up, as discards from the Wessex, are Clanfield, Colden Common, Fleetlands, Hamble Club, Otterbourne, Overton United, Paulsgrove, QK Southampton and Stoneham. Wellow and Fleet Spurs have also applied as a back-up should they not get permission for lights to enable them to remain in the Wessex League. Clubs in the north of the county believed to have shown some firm interest in the new set-up are Bentley, Eversley, Headley United, Ludwig Sports, Ludgershall and Winchester Castle, and from southern areas Academicals, Bishops Waltham Town, Lyndhurst, Netley Central Sports and Sway. Thus 22 potential entrants have been identified for a league with a likely consitution of 18.

Local press reports indicate that Brierley & Hagley's ground share agreement has been terminated by Lye Town. Although Brierley & Hagley have their own ground at Wassell Grove work cannot start on these premises until the Football Foundation release their share of the 50-50 funding. In the meantime Brierley & Hagley have approached two possible alternatives for next season with their main concern being the need to finalise arrangements in time to submit their F.A.Vase application by the end of this month.

Re : Elburton Villa.
Indeed planning permission for lights and stand have been granted by Plymouth City Council, this will enable the club to join the Premier Division of the Peninsula League for next season and have up to two seasons to complete the work. At Elburton's Haye Road ground, as you enter their is a pitch running lengthways in front of you, this is the current pitch but is too narrow and too close to houses to get permission for lights, this pitch will be downsized after the work is done and used by youth teams etc. Beyond that to the right and slightly below are two pitches, the furthest away is and will remain a small pitch for youth matches, the pitch in between however will be widened and have a stand with dressing rooms built alongside and floodlit. When complete the Adult team will leave the 1st pitch and move to this one. Existing clubhouse, tea hut, toilets, car park will still be retained as they are in effect between the two pitches anyway.

Other Peninsula league news - Buckland Athletic have also got permission for lights but Plymouth Argyle have withdrawn after changes to their club's policy with a new youth boss in Mike Pejic.
23/3/07 Andy Dakin
With regard to Elburton Villa, I would think that it does involve a pitch move. From my visit a couple of seasons ago I remember that the council wanted to turn their ground into a park and ride car park. There were two other pitches beyond the "main" ground, the first of which I suggest would be considered the "middle" pitch. The current ground does not have cover (not sure about lights).
23/3/07 Chris Ashbridge
Further to Stan Armett's query, I visited Elburton Villa in Dec 2006 and I only saw only 2 pitches in the ground, so which one is the 'middle one' is a bit of a mystery to me! However, the second (practice/reserve team) actually had a bigger capacity than the first team pitch as it had plenty of grass banking around one or two sides.
22/3/07 22:32 Mike Latham
A Thursday evening telephone call to check the game proved worthwhile, as the South of Scotland League match on Friday 23 March between St Cuthbert Wanderers and Threave Rovers has been switched to Threave's ground according to the Threave club secretary with a 7-30pm kick-off. This is due to pitch problems at St Cuthbert's ground.
23/3/07 Stan Armett
A posting made on the South Devon Football Forum on 16th March states that "Elburton Villa had their plans for floodlights and a grandstand on their middle pitch approved by Plymouth City Council last night." I have yet to visit the club, so perhaps someone out there could clarify whether the 'middle pitch' referred to is currently used by their first team, or will this facility upgrade will involve a 'pitch move'?

Regarding Bill Berry's enquiry. I attended the Fulham v Ipswich academy matches this season. There were no problems gaining access although to stand next to the u18 game involved a route march around the whole complex instead of the 50 yds from A-B. Unlike previous seasons no team sheet was available at these games and the excellent cafe (where these are normally left) was closed to the public. As the first team were training inside the stadium security was over the top and this may well have been the reason for the usual facilities not being available. I have had no problems in getting into games at Millwall, West Ham, Chelsea and Spurs this season although security at the latter 2 was also well over the top. Team sheet at Chelsea / excellent programme (produced by a fan) at West Ham.
22/3/07 Andy Molden
Re Ray Groves and Crystal Palace Youth, it is to do with the child protection laws. If a player in a game is under 17 years of age, clubs can restrict access. I have checked this with a professional club sec, it's another case of the masses suffering due the actions of a few.
22/3/07 Bill Berry
Further to Ray's experience at Crystal Palace, I understand that Fulham are also keeping the public out of FA Premier Academy League games. Can anyone confirm this, and is this policy also operated by any other clubs?

The last two w/e trips have brought news of change, Norwich Union of the Anglia Prem in order to install floodlights have this season switched pitches with the Rugby Club and is now situate the other side of the Cricket square. Also Vejle, currently top Danish division, are half way through constructing a new Football only stadium, opening 2008 and adjacent to the existing venue with Athletics track, which will remain. The cost of Rail travel remains costly, the 45 minute journey from Aarhus was £17 for a day return and £30 for Aarhus to Aalborg. Both Clubs gave away newspaper style programmes.

Baldock Town of the North & Mid Herts League are looking to make it a hat-trick of Semi-Final wins in consecutive weeks when they take on Fairlands in the Greg Cup Semi-Final in Stevenage on Saturday (24th March). Town have beaten Greenbury United and London Colney 'A' in the Herts Junior Cup and Benevolent Shield Semi-Finals in the past two weeks and are looking to make a third final with victory this weekend. The match is at King Georges Playing Fields, Stevenage and is a 2.30pm kick-off. Not sure if Fairlands are producing a programme for this one. A word of warning for any travellers who enjoy doubling up their Saturday afternoon game with a youth game in the morning. Crystal Palace now have a policy of only admitting parents and season ticket holders to their F.A.Premier Academy games at their training ground. As I found out to my cost this is non negotiable, even when pleading that I had just travelled 160 miles! This policy is of course caused by their fear of scouts and agents but while they may feel justified in their actions, it would help if they actually publicised their rules on the Academy page of their web site. Following correspondence with the Commercial Director I was finally able to attend an Academy game at Crystal Palace last Saturday.

flag_belgium.gif (1237 bytes)With regard to the requests for information on buying tickets for top division games in Belgium - which appear on here from time to time - I have discovered that since the beginning of the current season it has been possible to book them on-line for collection at the ground. Sidbury United FC - A possible new programme issuer in the Devon and Exeter League (Senior 3). The news section of their website http://www.sidburyutdfc.com/ , says 'We launch our match day programme tomorrow, its another milestone for the club, in the past, programme's have been done for special events, it is hoped that as we go on we will gain more experience on the that side of things so as to attract possible sponsors'. This appears to refer to Sat 17th as having been the first issue.

In answer to Gary Spooner we did Slavia v Sparta last season and were advised on contacting Slavia that they did not expect it to sell out and that we could just get tickets on the day, which we did comfortably ! As capacities are similar I would think the same might apply at Sparta.

I will be in Prague on April 21st for the Sparta v Slavia derby game. Normally in Czech Republic you get tickets before the game with no problems. However, this fixture often sells out. Does anybody have any ideas re obtaining tickets for this game?

Went to Louth United last night - along with 2 other esteemed travellers - full page statement in the programme complaining about lack of council support for a new purpose-built stadium. No comments about where they will be playing next season, but implies they will not be at Park Avenue next season. A few home games left, but only 1 midweek one, Tuesday 27 March v Yorkshire Main. Hatfield won 4-1 last night to go top

Further to Trevor Pike's posting about the new rugby stadium in Exeter, do Exeter City still have any plans to move there from St. James Park? (A Google search suggests that in 2005 they were considering this) - not that I'm thinking of going to the army game, mind you!

This may be old hat to some of the real experts but certainly it was news to me when I stumbled on it by accident. For 2007 a "Baltic League" has been formed, consisting of the leading 4 teams from each of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Initially games are on a group basis, with a "Final Round" later in the season. It does not appear this will affect any of the domestic competitions in these countries. Full details are available (thankfully in English as well !) on www.balticleague.com

In reply to Graeme, and to add to Mick's response, Salford Victoria share the pitch with Beechfield United of the Lancs & Cheshire Amateur League. Beechfield's first team have also been at home on dates when Salford play at 3.30, presumably they kick off at 1.30.

Exeter Chiefs RFC's new Sandy Park Stadium will host a representative football match on May 23rd. The match will be commemorating the 25th. anniversary of The Falklands conflict and will feature teams from the Royal Marines and the Parachute Regiment. It is probable that a special programme will be issued. The ground is quite close to the Exeter Services exit on the M5.

Re Grame's query re Salford Vics - details of ground location, including a map, are on the Manchester League pages within FA Full Time. This site also links to Vics own site. I wouldn't be too worried about postponements as they play on a 3G artifical pitch and this is presumably the reason for the 3.30 KO with another event taking place on the pitch earlier.

Saturday 10 March 2007 Herts Junior Cup Semi-Final Baldock Town v Greenbury United at Knights Templar School, Baldock - 2pm Kick-Off CALLING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY AND FOOTBALL FOLLOWERS EVERYWHERE!!! With Stevenage Boro away, Hitchin Town away and Arlesey Town away on Saturday 10th March you may well be looking for a match in the local area to go to?? Look no further than the Herts Junior Cup Semi-Final between Baldock Town and Greenbury United at Knights Templar School in Baldock (Nr. Stevenage!!) - 2pm Kick-Off. It is the biggest match that Baldock Town have been involved in since their formation in 2003. For the football fans who remember former Southern League side Baldock Town, (Kevin Phillips' old club) who folded back in 2001, our club was formed by Baldock Town Youth and was formed as an "exit" club for the youngsters in our community. The team is made up of exciting youngsters coupled with experienced heads that has seen the club become one of the best in Hertfordshire outside the Official Non-League Football Pyramid. Since we formed in 2003 Baldock Town, sponsored by Arena Security, have gone from strength to strength under the management duo of Steve King and Barry Laurence. The club is currently challenging on four fronts this season. Aswell as being in Saturday's Semi-Final we are 2nd in the North & Mid Herts Premier Division and in the Semi-Finals of the League Cup against London Colney 'A' (at Cotlandswick, London Colney 17th March) and the Greg Cup (v Fairlands). We are looking for a suitable venue for next season, so we can move up to Step 7 football for the 2007/08 season. We only average about 20 spectators usually, but our last round win against Ware Lions attracted just short of 100, which was fantastic for a club at our level. So if you are local or just a Non-League football fanatic looking to watch a good match - get down to Knights Templar School in Baldock on Saturday as we look to make our first of hopefully three cup finals this season. Admission is free and there will be a programme on sale for the match. COME ON YOU REDS!!
For additional information on Saturday's Herts Junior Cup Semi-Final clash between Baldock Town and Greenbury United, you can go to the Baldock Town Official Website at www.baldock03.teamexpert.co.uk or contact me at leeboy0483@hotmail.com.

I reply to Andy and Mick about Portugal. Yes there are metro stations at both Porto and Leixoes and I would advise getting Porto tickets earlier in the day. Boavista's stadium is easy to find, but beware when buying tickets. we went to the ground in the morning, and they sold us tickets in the away end - we got kept in and there were a few skirmishes afterwards - not necessary to do that bearing in mind the ground was half empty.

I was at the Feyenoord game on Sunday 4th, and there was a japanese hopper sat next to me - he had a fantastic book in colour on European stadiums showing the map to the ground, public transport info etc and maps of the city. He couldn't speak English, the book was in Japanese and he had bound the front so I couldn't see the title. Does anybody know anything about it please - it was written in the same format etc as the John Ladd book guide to the grounds, but this was in full colour

Can anybody help please as to why Salford Vics kick off at 3.30, where the ground is and a contact number to check on postponements etc

flag_norway.gif (1436 bytes)Some Scandinavian ground news that may be of interest. While many of new will already know that Sandefjord will be moving to a new stadium in August (so you will have to visit their current ground by early July), what may not be so widely known is that Bryne hope to start work soon on a new stadium to the south of the town centre, to replace their current town centre ground which is being eyed up by property developers. They hope that the new stadium will be ready by 2008.

Moving over to Sweden, Orgryte are using the Valhalla IP in Goteborg as a temporary home in 2007 while the Gamla Ulevi is rebuilt, although it is surprising that they are not using the Rambergsvallen.(again, this will be well-known to some of you.)

Meanwhile, the Swedish FA website reports that Bunkeflo (newly promoted to the 'Superettan') are planning to merge with Limhamm in 2008, so I intend to visit both clubs at their current grounds this year. (Please note that Bunkeflo are playing one or two of their bigger Superettan home games - including the visit of Landskrona BOIS - at the Malmo IP, with its bigger capacity.)

I will be issuing a programme for Retford Town Reserves home Gainsborough League Trinity Challenge Cup Semi Final versus Rampton Hospital on Saturday 10th March, kick-off is 2-15pm. The ground is on Finkell Street in Gringley on the Hill, directions are - from the main A631 road at Gringley take B1403 towards Misterton, at bottom of steep hill turn left onto Hall's Road then when road bends left onto Finkell Street turn immediately right into car park. Our reserves currently play at a different ground to our 1st team but will be sharing Tiln Lane in Retford as from next season so if you want to visit the ground in Gringley and get a programme this will probably be your only chance. PS Don't worry if it's been raining, the pitch drains really well - we haven't had any postponements on it this season.

In reply to Andy Langford, you certainly won't need to get tickets in advance for Boavista or Leixoes. I visited Porto for one of the first matches at the new ground in Feb 2004 and the ticket sales on the evening were rather chaotic to say the least, and I only just saw the kick off. Things may well have improved now but it might pay to get a ticket earlier in the day if you can. As Chris said there are numerous buses to Boavista. The central area bus stops have system maps and any bus along the Avenida da Boavista will get you there (the landmark to look out for is the high rise Meriden Park Atlantic Hotel on the right hand side going out of town.

With regard to Andy Langford's enquiry about Portugal, I have been to Porto's old ground, but not the new one. When I visited their old ground (it was in 2003 or 2004) a programme was issued but it was only available in the club shop, and possibly in the main stand too. (I sat in the far side but picked up a programme in the club shop before the game.) Other people who have been to the new stadium may be able to provide more up-to-date info regarding programmes. Boavista did not issue on my visit and only about half their ground is open to non-members. Their ground is within 30 mins walk from the city centre and in any case there will be plenty of buses passing nearby.

I will be in Porto from Friday 2nd until Tuesday 6th March, taking in games at Porto (Sat night), Leixoes (Sun afternoon) and Boavista (Mon night). I believe the first two are reached by Metro stops at the grounds, Estadio do Dragao and Estadio do Mar. Does anyone have any info on how to get to Boavista on public transport ? Also, will i need tickets in advance, or just turn up on the night? Do any of them issue programmes? Thanks in advance for any help.

We were in Istanbul in late January and bought tickets for a Besiktas game from Biletix at a supermarket near their ground. We were very frustrated that the scheduled Galatasaray game was behind closed doors and apparently the next Fenerbahce game was to be the same - seemingly punishments for crowd misbehaviour - so maybe this explains the Fenerbahce switches to Izmir. Incidentally BB Istanbul are playing their home games at the 82000 capacity Olimpiyat Ataturk Stadium but for some reason are getting minimal crowds - our game had about 120!

To: Stephen Harris. It would appear that Biletix.com, a Turkish branch of Ticketmaster, sell tickets for the big clubs matches normally one week before the game from either the website or their many outlets in Istanbul. The prices look reasonable from around £4 to £15 for Galatasaray for example. The Time Out guide suggests that it is also possible to buy from touts outside the stadiums for all games except for the meetings between Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fener so there should be no problem there either with the opposition being Trabzonspor and Konyaspor respectively. However, I have become aware this week that Fenerbahce have played their last two home games in Izmir at the Ataturk stadium...I cannot find out why and would be interested to hear whether this will continue. Looks like there will be plenty of lower division games over the weekend of the 10th in Istanbul too with Maltepe and Fatih Karagumruk SK at home amongst others. In Lig A, Istanbulspor and Istanbul BB are away but Kasimpasaspor are at home at look to have a superb stadium. I guess it's just a case of keeping an eye open for the dates and kick-off's.....

Thanks to those who replied about Belgium and fan cards. Looks like we should get to the Sunday game O.K, and if the flight is on time, to the Friday game too.

Pictures on the Haddenham United website for the game last Saturday at BCS Bardwell were clearly not taken at their usual ground of Rodney House. They were playing at a temporary ground in (I am told and have not checked this) Mallards Way Bicester which is close to Bicester Town station. Note that BCS stands for Bicester Civil Service.

flag_belgium.gif (1237 bytes)Regards watching games in Belgium, fan cards are not generally needed by the casual visitor. Can I suggest that if there is no obvious sales point, seek out the club secretary and explain that you have travelled from England (showing him your passport). I believe the FC Brussels versus Gent match that weekend is now ko 20-30 Friday 30 March and Union Sint Gilloise versus MSK Dienze is 15-00 Sunday 1 April and these games will not sell out ! If you need any further help please email direct on abbswolf@ntlworld.com

Thanks to Dave Woodings for his input re; Croke Park.

RE; Ken Nisbet's enquiry - the subject of FC Brussels was covered in November 2006 but in a nutshell, fancards are not required at any games in Belgium and tickets can be bought on the day anywhere, with the possible exception of matches between FC Brugge and Anderlecht.
Chris wrote in November... FC Brussels play at the Molenbeek ground (Stade Edmond Machtens, full address on www.footbel.com) ... Try the club's website to see if it possible to book on-line.
20/2/07 Stephen R Harris
To Scott Struthers - try this link for a look at Lubeck's ground - http://www.groundhopping.de/lbkbvb05.htm and here for a look at Eider Budelsdorf, including an image of the match programme. http://www.hannover-groundhopping.de/ look for the 17.9.2005 entry. Of the two I have only been to Lubeck's ground which is an easy 15 minutes walk from the station away from the town centre.

To: Leon Gladwell - I logged on to this website today to ask exactly the same question as you. I too will be attending Galatasaray and Fenerbache on the 10 March weekend. Others have told me that "there is no problem buying cheap tickets from touts at the grounds". But hopefully someone will know the right way of doing it.

To Ken Nisbet - Union St Gilloise is no problem; last season I just paid at a ticket window, no questions asked. Several years since I went to FC Brussels. I inagine you will be asked to show your passport when buying a ticket at the ticket office, but others may have more up to date info.

Following a meeting of the FAI's First Instance Licensing Committee tonight (19th Feb) last season's Eircom League champions Shelbourne have had their Premier Division licence withdrawn, to be replaced by a First Division licence. No details have yet been released pending a possible appeal by the club within five days. (Webmaster adds: According the rte.ie/sport: "The licencing committee had been investigating the club's finances after they failed to pay 17 players wages owed to them from the end of the season.")

Programme hunters may wish to be note that Tunstall Town of Division 2 of the Staffordshire County League are issuing this season. I attended their game on Saturday (the club ground share at Biddulph Victoria) and was one of only two spectators present and was totally taken aback on 65 minutes when the manager / secretary introduced himself to me and asked me if I would like a programme. Quite a creditable 0-2 home defeat for Tunstall as they are used to conceding loads of goals in every game. This season they won their first match in over 3 years. Their oldest player is 71 and the pen pics showed some recent recruits as aged 40+ !!!!!!
19/2/07 Ken Nisbet
Can anyone give me any info on how to get tickets for games in Brussels? I believe that a "fan card" is required (for just Div. 1 games?) - if so, then how easy is to get that? Our group will be going the weekend before Easter - the games we have in mind are at FC Brussels (Div.1) and Union Saint-Gilloise (Div.2). Have emailed the two clubs, but no joy as yet.
19/2/07 Dave Woodings
In relation to Chris Ashbridge's query about Croke Park I can find no trace of any permission being granted for "soccer" other than competitive international matches. Indeed the GAA Council met yesterday and I reproduce the relevant report from their website re 2008 and beyond which also confirms their upset at the Shamrock Rovers Tallaght situation : "Croke Park 2008 It was agreed to accede to the IRFU and FAI's request to hold three Six Nation's Rugby and two World Cup soccer qualifier games respectively in Croke Park in the Spring and Autumn of 2008. It was also agreed that should planning permission be refused for the Lansdowne Road redevelopment or should any planning permission given render the project unviable, the 2005 Congress decision in relation to use of the Stadium is no longer applicable post 2008. It was also confirmed that use of no other GAA grounds for any rugby or soccer competitions would be considered and that no such application had been received from the respective governing bodies or are being contemplated by them. Disappointment was expressed by delegates that no reciprocal gesture was being made to the GAA and that Gaelic games were being excluded from the stadium being built in Tallaght exclusively for soccer which is being financed by the Government in land provided by the local authority. It was pointed out that a similar situation prevails in relation to Lansdowne Road despite the fact that provision for Gaelic Games was promised in respect of both proposals. An application in regard to friendly games in 2008 by both the FAI and IRFU was not discussed at today's meeting."

There will be two new teams in the League of Ireland next season - Wexford Youths and Limerick 37 who are a new club set up to replace the former Limerick FC which is confirmed to have lost its FAI LIcence. I gather Wexford Youths will play on a new ground on the outskirts of the town and Limerick 37 are hoping to play at Jackman Park. It also looks from the Athlone Town website as if they will begin the new season at their new ground at Lissywollen. On the other hand Shamrock Rovers are still no further forward with their new ground at Tallaght. This is now supposed to be completed, and then owned, by South Dublin Council, with Shams as sole tenants but a local Gaelic club Thomas Davis is challenging this and seeking a judicial review, which could hold the project up for a further 12 months at least ! Wembley Stadium eat your heart out !
11/2/07 Rob North
To Andy Tranmere - Re Scottish non League The Scottish Non-League (Junior) fixtures tend to appear only a week or two before games are played, so it's unlikely that March 24th fixtures will appear much before 10/11th March. The East Of Scotland League produce their fixtures on a monthly-ish basis, so if you can manage a trip to Edinburgh then there's a fair chance of finding something. One thing is sure. Following the bad weather the Juniors are well behind with fixtures, penchant for cups doesn't help(!), so I am am sure there WILL be plenty of games on that Saturday.

Tonight's Liverpool Senior Cup Tie between Everton and Prescot Cables at the Halton Stadium, has been postponed due to a frozen pitch, as stated on the Halton Stadium Website.
7/2/07 Peter Ford
I went to Ratby last night - club secretary warned me of possible postponement due to frost, but not far from work. The referee passed pitch fit at 7.00pm, and the match did go ahead on a pretty hard pitch. I don't think either side, or any of the 29 crowd, could have complained had it been abandoned - but it did get to the finish, with a flattering 5-1 win to Ratby (next to bottom) against bottom side Rothley. A friendly club, with an impressive looking club house in the process of being built. No programmes

Sunday game at Croesyceiliog (4/2/07)
Chris Ashbridge...
Does anyone know why the Croesyceiliog v. Grange Quins match (Welsh lge Div 1) is being played on Sunday 4th Feb and not the preceding day? Also, can anyone confirm the kick-off time and the venue (I know they play at Woodland Road but the Cwmbran Stadium is rather close by.)

Mike Latham... This week's Traveller lists a Sunday game in the MacWhirter Welsh League Division One- Croesyceiliog v Grange Quins. The very helpful home secretary has confirmed the kick-off time as 12:45pm so as not to clash with the Wales RU international kicking-off at 3pm.
1/2/07 Craig Hochkins
Many thanks for the information - much appreaciated
31/1/07 Dave Woodings
According to NW Counties League and Runcorn Linnets websites the Bootle v Runcorn Linnets Div 2 Trophy QF has been brought forward to Friday night 7.45. Apparently Bootle are "hoping for a bumper crowd" by avoiding a near clash with the Merseyside Derby at 1245 the next day.
31/1/07 Chris Ashbridge
I must say that having visited Wellow on Sat, I have to agree with Mick Burt's comments in issue 20 of the magazine that this is a very friendly and well-organised club. In fact, when I arrived at the ground at 12.09 (nearly 2 hours before ko) they were already setting up a refreshment table inside the clubhouse and home players had already got changed and warming up - easily a record by far for me! The programme has also increased from 8 pages to 12 and there was a petition for floodlights (which perhaps suggests that there is some local opposition to them?) available to be signed by spectators.
31/1/07 Mike Roe
In answer to Steve Diplock...Hayling moved this season to a school venue. If you come into Hayling on the A3023 over the bridge till you get to the roundabout. Then take Church Rd(not A3023,first exit I think) and the ground is further down on the left...turn off just before the school.I went this season but initially went to their old ground and was left with a last minute panic dash round Hayling.
31/1/07 Mike Roe
To add to Stuart's Arsenal ditty...I also found Hadley Wood a decent place to park,it's free on street parking and loads of it in a posh neighbourhood and close to the station which runs into Finsbury Park.Come off M25 at J24.

I can confirm that Plymouth Argyle issue an 8 page programme, A5 pages, with admission and although quite light it is well produced. South West Peninsula League has confirmed the following applications for next season - Clyst Rovers on a sideways transfer to the Premier Division and the following to Division 1 East & West (10 spaces avalible) : Axminster, Exeter Civil Service, Feniton United, Exmouth Town & Okehampton Argyle (All Devon &Exeter) Bovey Tracey, Buckfastleigh, Gampton & Liverton (All South Devon Lge) Foxhole, Dobwalls & Camelford (All East Cornwall Lge) Hayle, Helston, Wendron, Mousehole, St Day, St Just, Perranporth & Illogan (All Cornwall Combination)

Aylesbury United have moved from Leigton Town to groundshare at Chesham United's ground, their first game there being last Saturday (27th Jan). This arrangement is for the rest of the season, but has resulted in a couple of Sunday fixtures, the first being on 11th February when they are at home to Bishops Cleeve, and the second on 4th March at home to Woodford United

Anyone planning a trip to the Emirates stadium may be interested to note that if driving and coming from the north I found it easy to park at Cockfosters tube and get the tube to Arsenal(Picadilly line)which takes about 20-25 minutes (about five stops). It cost me one pound to park but this was a Sunday.'Looks like it's three pounds Saturday and week days. Please note that I got to Cockfosters early to park. There are about 450 car parking spaces there but I noticed the car park was pretty full when I got back so bear that in mind if you go on a Saturday or weekday the car park could be busier. As you are all probably aware parking around the stadium is severly restricted and anyway the police seem to block all the surrounding streets off after the match. It was well organised afterwards, being back in Nottingham at about 8.30 pm.Not bad,as the game didn't finish 'till nearly six! That is the best leg room I've had at one of the 'new' grounds, even the seats were padded!!

ALSO, Does anyone know if the Plymouth Argyle South Western League X1 issue programmes/teamsheets for their home games at Plymouth Parkway as I would like a couple for my collection if possible? They must issue 'something'I would imagine. Thankyou.
29/1/07 Peter Ford
I did indeed visit the Emirates yesterday, sitting with some of Lancashire's finest. I have no particular affection for Arsenal, but I have to say that it was a fantastic ground - seems amazing that that can be built in a very built up area, on time, but Wembley cannot. We travelled by car to Cockfosters Tube station, parked our car there (£1 for Sunday) and 9 stops on the Northern Line - very convenient. My wife also had the privilege of meeting several esteemed travellers - including Tram.

Further to my entry of 28/12/06, I manged to 'tick' Harlow Town's new ground on Sat 20th Jan, when they had possibly their last 1.30pm ko, as their floodlight problem is expected to be rectified soon. Given that the weather in the UK as a whole was generally worse on 20 Jan than it had been on 23 Dec, perhaps it was just as well that I had missed Steve Coulson's post back then! Harlow's pitch is a very good one and one thing that has not been commented on by anyone is the new stadium's location on a hill-top. While not steep one, it obviously helps the drainage and also provides a great view of the town from the back of the main stand. The ground is a 20-22 minute walk from Harlow Town station. My advice to anyone who has not yet visited is - don't go in midweek, save it for a wet Saturday!

After falling victim to a late postponment of a game which had earlier passed an inspection, I made the short journey to watch West Midlands League Division Two newcomers Penn Colts defeat Mahal 7-1 (att c9; no prog). Penn share with Wolverhampton Development FC at the Four Ashes Ground on the A449 between Gailey and Coven. The ground (behind the pub and visible from the road travelling south) is a large playing field with three pitches. Penn played on a roped-off pitch nearest to the changing room block. I was en-route to Gooodrich but spotted players warming up about at Four Ashes so took advantage of a 2 pm start. I tend to avoid watching the tenants at a ground I haven't been to but Penn did prove to be a very friendly club. Perhaps I'll get to see Wolves Development play there sometime in the future and also I hope to see Goodrich under lights this season.

Also, this may be old news to many but I didn't know until this evening that MK Dons hope to move to their new 30,000 all-seater stadium at the start of next season.

Over the long weekend i took in two matches. On Saturday i went to see an anglian com div 1 match at Aylsham v Holt not the best of matches but ended 0-1 also a very good programme was issued, as they do for all 1st team matches .And yesterday as the weather wes poor very heavy over night rain and the bbc was forcasting more rain in the birmingham area about late afternoon, but Heath Hayes sec told me no problem the game will go ahead so i went to the match one a few which played

It is reported on the Welsh League's Official website that Third Division side Gwynfi United have withdrawn from the League with immediate effect, following problems of player availability which have lead to the non fulfilment of some recent fixtures. Their playing record for this season will be expunged. The club will however continue to field a team in the Port Talbot League.

In response to Chris Ashbridge. Both Elburton Villa & Holsworthy have applied to move upto the Step 6 Division of the new South West Peninsula League. They are amongst 29 clubs from the 39 currently playing in the 2 leagues looking for a space in the 18 team Premier. The 11 that don't make it, plus the 10 that have not applied will go into the 2 Division 1s, East & West where they will be joined by 11 clubs from the 6 feeders below to make 32, 2 x 16 in each Division. Clubs moving from Western League 1 would go straight into Premier and reduce the number of new clubs from the feeder leagues. A statement is expected early in January of the clubs who have applied to move up from the 6 feeder leagues.

I was disappointed to miss Steve Coulson's post about Harlow Town kicking off at 1.30pm, as I would certainly have gone there had I known (I prefer to go to early ko's in the winter months), but the message board must have been updated after I last viewed it on Fri 23rd Dec. As it was, I decided to go to Elburton Villa, who I saw defeat Holsworthy 7-1 in the Devon League. Elburton issued an excellent programme, which remarked that this was to be Holsworthy's last ever league visit to Haye Road. Presumably this means that one of these two clubs will not be applying to join the merger between the SWL and the Devon Lge next season. Anyone know the full list of clubs applying? By the way, I was a bit amused to read Peter Chappell's comment that he did not want to "travel too far because of the fog". Hanley was one of the places considered most likely by the BBC to be affected by fog on Saturday, although fortunately for him it seems that only Buxton in the north-west was badly hit!
29/12/06 Reply by Peter Chappell: it was the Hanley Town sec who told me there was very little fog in the area not the BBC, so if he wants to go by someone from Bracknall or someone who lives in the area it`s up to him

On Saturday i didn`t want to go to far because of the fog, so i went about 35 miles to hanley town of the staffordshire county senior league they are current league champions, the ground is not the easyest to find up an unmade track it would have help with a signboard, but when you get there it`s a good ground at this level cover on the far side and clubhouse and changing room in the corner and a tea bar in the club house also they issue a 24 page programme for all first team matches. On the 13th of jan they play at home meir ka in the staffs vase for anyone wanting a good day out.

For the local derby in the West Lancs between the top 2 -Frecketon v Kirkham the home side produced a programme. The cost being £1 which included admission. The programme with a full colour cover consised of 24 pages-mostly ads-but they took the trouble to issue! At Blackpool Mechs last saturday they issued for the game v Ashton-but the programme was issued for a game against Winsford?
22/12/06 Steve Coulson
Harlow Town's game against Sudbury on Saturday 23rd December will now kick off at 1.30 pm. This is due to floodlighting problems at Barrows Farm.
22/12/06 Dave Norris
There don't appear to be any West Lancs League fixtures after 23rd Dec until 6th Jan 2007.
22/12/06 John Keogh
are there any west lancs league fixtures on boxing day?
