PORTISHEAD (27/12/2005)

I attended the Portishead v. Longwell Green match (2pm) on Tuesday 27th December. There was some frost (and even a very thin covering of snow in one place!) visible from the National Express coach I travelled on from London, but it had all gone by the time I reached Bristol. Portishead is easily reached by hourly buses on public holidays and they go past the ground's entrance. Admission was £4 and an informative 24-page programme sold for a further £1, with the visitors winning an undistinguished game with a late goal. Portishead seem to have spent plenty of money on making their ground fully enclosed and there is a proper turnstile as well, although the presence of Portakabin-type dressing rooms suggests that they may have been using one of the other pitches on the ground in their Somerset Senior League days, particularly as the one they are using now is some way from the clubhouse.
